3.1 High idle after installing Custom chip.

With the stock chip/prom my car would idle at around 600-700 rpm. I ordered a custom chip and popped it in there and now it idles at 1500 rpm in park and in drive like 1400 rpm. The new chip runs good just idles high. Can i adjust the idle or is it not adjustable? Or is it a bad tune job.?

Does the idle go back to the 700 to 800 RPM when you re-install the factory chip?

I got it from john wayne lol. Wish i would of done a bit of research on him before i bqught the chip..Also my fan turns on when i go to start the car and check engine light stays on. Do you guys think it would be safe to drive with the high idle. ? Can i lower the idle? Or should i just get another chip.and if so can you point me in the right direction.

You're in LHM (Limp Home Mode), which defaults to fan on and higher idle (since the IAC is not being controlled and stays at it's park position, which is farther open than needed for idle).

Are you sure you installed the chip in the correct direction?

If you're absolutely sure the chip is installed the correct way, and the problem still exists, it's either a blank chip, or programmed with the wrong bin file.

Re: 3.1 High idle after installing Custom chip.

I have a somewhat similar thing as this for a high idle, but I am not sure of whether my tach reads correctly or if it really is something else. Car warm idles at about 1100-1200 rpm. After being driven a while and brought to a stop, it idles about the same but drops occasionally to about 600-800 rpm and gives an impression of it about to stall, but doesn't. The idle was much higher before but I cleaned the Throttle Body, IAC, may or may not have went through the proper idle relearn process, and flushed out the upper plenum of my intake manifold during a time I had spare whilst replacing my FPR diaphragm.

According to this Repair guide I have a digital copy of states the idle should be 675 rpm...

Best point to begin diagnosing this?
