Oil pressure

What should we b runnin at at idle and during drivin... mine seems to be doin weird shiz... its real high at idle... like at 80 + and when im drivin it seems to stick at 60... 90% of the time... i was under the impression that it shood b round 60 cus every new chevy ive driven (i work for rental car company) is at or around that .. but ive never seen the fluctuations like mine does... im pretty possitive the gauge functions correctly.. cus i had an oil leak last year and ended up runnin on 1-2 quarts of oil until i realized it... and the gauge was up and down...

do u think i shood b worried?

thanks

80+ at idle?? Jesus..that's all the guage goes up to is 80.. That's pretty high. I've been told the normal warm engine idle psi is around 40. I idle between 25 and 40 myself.

I've also heard excessively high oil pressure sucks on your performance...so, I'd get that looked at. I couldn't guess myself why it'd be so high..you'd have to call on TomP for that one. But 80 at idle, that's about double what it should be..something weird's going on in there.

what weight of oil are you using.
Using heavy grades such as 20-50 will spike your oil pressure up ,but are rough on the oil pump especially in cold weather.
