302->165 ECU: ran once and no more!

Hello everyone! I may need to move this thread to the DIY section, I apologize if this is not the right place for this. I hate to do this but after reading a mind-numbing number of threads on the topic including all the DIY PROM stickies, I'm coming to a dead end. I have been working on the swap in the title, the 302->165 swap. I repined the connector & spliced the grounds as needed, programmed a 27SF512 chip with the 2.8 V6 bin provided in the sticky thread, installed it in a beat up memcal, and I got the car to run! Kinda crappy, but the tune definitely worked. Bit of a stumble at 3k, a bit high of an idle, but overall a notable difference from the 302 computer and chip. I drove it around a few minutes, and as soon as I got in my driveway, it stalled (probably due to the lack of power steering logic) and I haven't been able to restart it since. I figured I just needed to tweak the tune. Nope. The car will crank, fire, and immediately die. The ECU was definitely working, it turned on the fuel pump and the electric fan, and when I DID get to drive the car, the SES light did the proper flash, off, and solid when ignition was "on". This was on Saturday.
I decided the memcal should be replaced since it was the 165 unit (no knock module) and I had beat the crap out of it with my soldering iron. I got a 730 memcal (with the white knock board) in perfect condition and installed the same tune, but now its worse. The SES stays solid when its turned to "on", and it only cranks/fires/dies now. The chip is holding the tune, and I know I'm setting the buffer correctly (start at address 0xC000 so the data goes to the very end of the chip). I've tried editing the tune but to no avail. I killed the battery cranking it, so I'm charging it overnight. I'm really quite stumped. It would be one thing if I never had the car running, but I got it to run once. So now its really bothering me. I haven't blown any fuses and the car runs fine with the 302 computer in it, other than the normal EGR codes. So I have a good chip, a good memcal, and a good car. Did I kill the 165 computer somehow? I don't see anything blown, but I know how finicky computers are! Thank you for your attention and time whoever replies, I greatly appreciate any input you can provide. I will provide pictures and further details as required. My car's mechanical bits are relatively stock (intake and catback are different) so there shouldn't be any issues there. I've been focusing on suspension work, and I would like to finish this tune before moving onto engine mods ( new manifold, plenum, and injectors are all sitting in my garage). Rambling... so, Dead ECU?

Re: 302->165 ECU: ran once and no more!

Update: No, that still isn't working. I needed a new battery but now I'm just having a bitch of a time getting even the original computer to work. The values in the bin I pulled out of the car seem really wonky, but I can only get the car to run with that exact bin. I can't find a bin with the HRR broadcast code that's stamped on the computer in the gearhead index, AMBF won't hold an idle, and of course I still can't get the 165 computer to work. *sigh*

Re: 302->165 ECU: ran once and no more!

Well, thanks to my own help I found three problems: a slightly loose connector in the repined harness, a loose ground, and most importantly... my stock bin was corrupt. I reloaded AMBF onto a new chip after fixing the wiring and now its as good as its ever been. So, thank you me for all my help! Now on to fixing the EGR like everyone else on the forum.

It sucks being the question answerer who has a question.

Good job finding the problems.
