3.4 v6 soft lifters.

Hi.
Sorry for my english, ain't so good at it, im from Latvia (EU)
Sou i installed on my 3.4v6 1994, a complete compcams 260H cam&kit, as well all new bearings, polished crankshaft, new piston rings, valves n headers restored.
Assembly n break in, wass 100& accurate, every part mesured twice, changed oil n filter after break in as well. After aprox 3000mi, started to hear some small knocking, changed oil, but didn't help, then i discovered that 9 of 12 lifters, i could push in like 3-4mm, 3 of them was ok. Where is the problem!??! im confused!!!!
Thanks.

Re: 3.4 v6 soft lifters.

sounds like ur cam went flat , or more correctly round .

what kind of oil did u use for the break in ?did u rev the motor up to 2000-2500 rpms when u first started the engine up for 20-30 mins?

Re: 3.4 v6 soft lifters.

Compcams brake in 10w30, jap i rev for 24min, in 2300-2500rpm range. But the movement is inside lifter, i can push it in, but the spring inside, bounces back, when i release it, seems like it doesn't hold the pressure!
Ok, if cam got worn out, then botom of the lifter shuld be damadged as well, but it's in mint condition!!!

ok i understand what u were saying now , the inside of the lifter should move when the engine is off . i would readjust the valves and see if the noice goes away

is it a knock or more of a clicking/tapping sound when it is runing

Grammar and punctuation is extra important when it is the reader's second language. Had to fix it for clarity.

Re: 3.4 v6 soft lifters.

I'ts more like clicking.
Ok, then how can i readjust n put half turn preload, if 9 lifters are soft???
I culd understand if lifter gets soft, when valve is fully open but no way 9 of them. N i didn't turn engine by hand, just dismantle straight away n discovered 9 bad lifters...

Re: 3.4 v6 soft lifters.

if it helps any, i had to readjust my lifters 2 times after the 3.4 swap. I don't remember how many, but it was a lot of them that went out of adjustment. Now it's been a year since the last adjustment, and they are fine.
