Hybrid swap ?'s

I went through fast eddis post for a hybrid swap and I have a few questions if i run stock pistons with the 3400 heads what will the compression ratio be I dont have a cherry picker or engine stand at the moment so I cant pull my motor to change out pistons. And what its a good after market ecm thats easy to tune I am putting turbos in so Its a must

Re: Hybrid swap ?'s

I am pretty sure 2.8's have the flat top pistons in them so paired with FWD heads you are going to have a very large compression ratio. Something in like 11-12 range which will not work with pump gas. ECM wise, There are many options, EBL Flash and Megasquirt is a big one that a lot of people use too.

Re: Hybrid swap ?'s

Your compression will be something like 13:1 or 14:1, so too high to run on pump gas N/A. You DEFINITELY can't boost it with compression that high. You may want to look into renting a cherry picker and you can buy an engine stand for under $100. Megasquirt is an option or you can tune your existing ECM like others have done in here by burning your own chips.

Re: Hybrid swap ?'s

You would be best to run e85 of you are planning on using the rwd pistons.

For me with a 3.4l rwd block and small dish pistons .040 gasket and 3400 heads I would have 12.68:1 compression. Not bad really if I use e85 but pump gas.... would be tough and definitly couldn't boost it without e85 or race gas (100 octane or higher)

As for a ecm. I know alot have had sucess with the megasquit. I personally like my 7730 stock ecm. You could swap in the stock 7730 out of a speed density car truck and tune that with moates equipment if you wanted as well.

Re: Hybrid swap ?'s

You'd have to start doing your homework in the PROM burning forum and on here. I looked into some of that, but never actually got to do it before I went V8. Or you can contact some other guys who have done it, they may be able to help or even get you a chip with a base cal to get you up and running.
Fasteddi (see above post) would be a good guy to talk to. Sorry to throw you under the bus Fasteddi

If you went the 7730 ecm swap route you would use tunerpro rt. It's free unless you register it.

If you did a megasquirt ecm you would use other software. I've never used it or played with Ms so I'm no help but a few on our v6 forum have.

When I get home I can toss together the bare bones list of what you would need for the ecm tuning and the ecm itself of you want.

Re: Hybrid swap ?'s

Ill pm you about the parts.

heres a list of moates stuff you would need. This is the bare minimum of stuff. But its what ive been using now for over 4 years. I used it alot and i have got every penny of tuning out of it.

Moates is a very good spot to get stuff. They usually toss in instructions for the stuff they sell and also have help areas on there web site so that the installation of any of there stuff is a breeze.

gp1 package ($55)
http://www.moates.net/burn2-chip-pro....html?cPath=94

burn2 chip burner ($85)
http://www.moates.net/burn2-chip-pro....html?cPath=94

from aldlcable.com ($60)
aldl cable 12 pin usb
http://aldlcable.com/products/aldlobd1u.asp

Then you would have to down load tunerpro rt off there web site and get some files from there or other places which we could help you out on. So minus a laptop which you would also need for datalogging, your arround 200 bucks to tune your car as many times as you want. I would strongly advise a Wideband o2 kit though to do tuning the right way. Thats adds another 150-200 bucks depending on what one you decide to go with.
