Question about EGR

I was changing the plug wire behind the altenator and accidently broke the hose on the EGR facing the altenator. My question is how important is it and can I tape it up for a day? Also will it throw any codes?

if it leaks any vacuum when it triess to open the egr you will get a code(i think it says egr non-response) it won't really bother the actual driving of the car too much. tape shoudl be able to hold it over until you get a new line on it. also, you can use any old poiece of vacuum line, it is not necessary to find the little piece of hard line like they used from the factory.

Agreed; a little piece of "real" vacuum hose can join two plastic hoses together pretty damn well. In fact, you could always replace the plastic lines with rubber all the way around. In fact #2, places like Pep Boys sell little coils of plastic "emissions tubing" (vacuum line), if you want to stick with plastic.

Thanks for the help, I guess I will replace all of them, they all have cracks and look like they have never been changed. Quick question I was following the one line and its goes under the cannister on the drivers side, what is that round ball under there?

That's your vaccuum tank; it "holds" reserve vacuum. Non cruise controlled cars have the tank on the firewall, below the driver's side winshield wiper; and it looks like a little rectangle.
