BoneYard Run
I made one run today , and got some pretty good deals on some interior pieces .I was sitting here reading a "CHEVY HIGH PERFORMANCE" mag and I see "Rear Panhard Bars " ..I saw two of these today laying underneath and IROC , they had already been taken off .What do these do ? Should I get them ? Please excuse me guys , I'm totally suspension dumb
...I know the owner of the boneyard so he's given me real good deals on stuff .I've decided to put off getting injectors for my car for now because I REALLY need to re-build my front end suspension for safety reasons .Anything else I should be looking for off of these cars ? .HE HAS 4 3RD GEN CAMAROS !!!
Hard to belive
Is there any high performance suspenion kits on the market for our cars ? I dont know if it matters that we have a V6 or not ?Im really dumb at this suspension thing guys , but Im learning . Have any part #s or links for performance re-build suspension kits ? Also what would take that wiggle out of my rear end that I have sometimes ?

You would do good to take every suspention piece out of the Irocs/Z28's there...
Go to the RPO codes section and look for the codes that are suspentio upgrade packages, go to the cars and look at the RPO's, if any of them have an upgrade package, get the suspention parts...
Two definates are the anti-sway bars (same as panhard, I think?) and the wonderbar (found on -some- Iroc's)
We can do basically everything to our 6's that the 8's can do. Ladder-bar ect... there would be no need, but in theory, we certainly could... As far as a suspention package? No, not an entire package, not that I know of at least, but I do know that Energy Suspentions makes an entire polyurethane mount and bushing kit for our cars... somewhere in the mid 100's for price, and from what I understand is a very thorough and good kit. Follow that up with shocks, struts and springs and an alignment, and you're set.
Good luck. I hope this helped.

I thought I remembered TomP saying something like the wonderbar won't work because it hits the lower radiator hose or something?
I could be wrong.....but definately get the bigger sway bars!!
I could be wrong.....but definately get the bigger sway bars!! Wow, the misinformation abounds in here.
The only parts that are different in the suspension from a V6 to a Iroc are as follows...
springs, heavier rates front and rear
sway bars, thicker front and rear
wonder bar
steering box
Of these pieces, the only ones that you want to put directly on a V6 are the sway bars, and maybe the wonder bar. The springs will make it ride like a tank, the steering box will change the feel but isn't neccesary.
The lower control arms, and trailing arms are identical, the torque arm is identical, and the track bar is identical. Don't waste your time changing out parts that you don't understand.

Syxx just did the sway bar thing off an IROC and it is different. Go for it.. He also tossed the ownder bar on at the same time. He just ground down the area by the house. I did not have to do that.

Drew, I would love to know what mis-information is "abounding" around here...? I assumed Xenodragon was talking about getting aftermarket springs/struts...?
http://www.p-s-t.com and http://www.psc.com (I think, the company name is PSC) sell front end rebuild kits, with bushings & balljoints. You can buy the http://www.energysuspension.com kit thru summitracing.com.
Like Drew said, the panhard rod (GM name = track bar), control arms (front and rear), and torque arm are all the same. If you find an IROC (or Trans Am with the WS6 "performance suspension" badge on the dash), definately go after the quick ratio steering box. It'll have 26000525 and a "Z" cast into the side.
As for panhard rods & rear control arms, you can buy aftermarket tubular items, or you can "box" your own. Boxing involves welding a plate across the open end (the bottom) of the "U" channel stock design- this turns the suspension piece into a box, which is stronger. (Tubular is strongest over box- for any piece.)
Before you hunt for anti sway bars, measure your own with calipers. If you don't have calipers, use an open-ended adjustable wrench. Tighten the wrench down on the center of the sway bars to get a measurement. Either measure the gap with a ruler, and bring the ruler with you to the junkyard to compare, OR, trace the jaws on a piece of paper (for front and rear bars), and bring the paper with you to the junkyard. Largest bar "wins"! Take all the mounting hardware- the rear swaybar-to-axle clamps have a special "cut" in them to locate them on the axle. Cut the junkyard car's endlinks in half with a hacksaw. Buy new endlinks (2 5/8" sleeve length) and mounting bushings for your new bars- get polyurethane. These usually come in a front end rebuild kit, so if you're going to rebuild your suspension, get the junkyard bars first to find out how thick they are for when you order the rebuild kit.
Tons more info is on the suspension/chassis board.
Oh yah- my lower rad hose goes to the driver's side of the radiator, and does a "loop" which blocks the area for the wonderbar. Seems like later model f-bodies don't have this curve. The lower outlet on the radiator is slanted downward, as opposed to other radiators, of which the lower outlet points straight ahead. This downward slant is why my lower hose curves as it does...

The big thick shiny bar crossing the front end here is the anti-sway bar, the thinner straight bar in-front of it is the "wonderbar"... these two are the Global West pieces...
And yes, I did mean to buy aftermarket spings/shocks/struts... There are differences between the main suspention pieces but I didn't know what pieces were... thank you for educating us on the pieces that were the same...

Im ganna concentrate on re-building my front end suspension. It jiggles like a girl's a$$ walking down the street eating a bowl of jello !
