i have decided that i want to use my laptop to control the functions like shift points, nitrous, lights, ect. Is there any way to do this? Like something that plugs into the ecu and than into the laptop. Thanks

Yes there is ways to do this. I would say search the net, or go to the EPROM board, they program chips for that stuff. You can program your own chips to how you drive your car.

 

I doubt you'll be able to control shift points on an OBD1 car without an electronically controlled transmission.

 

well you can always buy a haltech I think they will allow you to controll anything in the car you want. it replaces for the most part the entire computer in your car

(laughs) At least 1stgen knows it's "nitrous" and not "NOS". That scene was ridiculous... 3 stages of nitrous from a laptop? Why? Also, how the hell would the laptop determine "INTAKE MANIFOLD DAMAGE"- give me a break. Was there a spiderweb of sensor wires superglued to the intake manifold, and it could "sense" a crack? Hahaha... then, after the race, and ignoring the double-clutching part, why did they "say" that his piston rings burnt? I thought the intake manifold was damaged. ?? Then, he's speeding all around the city and not one bit of blue smoke is coming out of the tailpipes?

1. Good point about the shift points, CaliCamaroRS! If you want to change the shift points, buy the B&M Governor Recalibration Kit, and change the weights/springs on the tranny's governor. (Note: the governor in the trans has nothing to do with top speed.) Find it at http://www.bmracing.com and buy it thru http://www.summitracing.com ... I think it's $50. You can also shift the transmission manually during a race. For more "fun", I put in the B&M Megashifter- it doesn't add performance, but it's a sturdier unit than the stock shifter.

2. Nitrous is best activated by a microswitch on your throttle linkage. A "wet" system injects both fuel and air into the intake. Our fuel injection intakes were only designed to flow air- so fuel can "puddle" in the intake, and if your motor backfires, it can blow the intake manifold to shreds (you won't need a laptop to tell you of damage.) "Dry" nitrous systems inject nitrous into the intake, and use your injectors to add extra fuel. The most common damage from nitrous is a burnt piston (not rings), and burnt piston = melted through the center. This happens when there's not enough fuel for the nitrous shot (weak fuel pump), so you should add a fuel pressure gauge- if fuel pressure drops to an unsafe level, shut the motor off.

3. If you want to control neons or strobe lights or lasers or disco ***** or LED chasers or any of that other rice burner kind of lighting with a laptop, you own the wrong kind of car.

Seriously tho, read through the messages on the PROM tuning board, and do "search"es on the forum- you'll find a ton of info (print it all out). You can also use your laptop to diagnose the car (if the serv eng soon light comes on), or, to monitor driving variables such as throttle position, open loop/closed loop, injector pulse, etc. There's a commercially avaliable program/cable called the Diacom ( http://www.rinda.com ) that costs $150, and can do all this. There's also some programs that people wrote (and are available for free) if you want to try those.

 

Thanks, i am not sure if i want to use nitrous but i wanted to know if it could be done from the laptop. I want to control a lot of things from that because i dont want all kinds of switches in my dash, i like the stock look. thanks guys
