Re: 1982 firebird se v6 carb hesitating

Beautiful car. People seem to forget that these steel gas tanks get rusty on the inside and sometimes replacing the fuel filter doesn't help because of how many rust particles are in the tank. If you eliminate spark and air, and are sure it's a fueling problem, and are sure that the carb is fine, try replacing the tank and the lines as well. good luck.

I'd start by checking everything before just tossing a new tank and lines at it blindly. A parts cannon is always a bad way to fix problems.
How does it idle? Does it rev up fine in neutral? You may have a clogged cat. If you haven't checked the carb or timing, I'd start there too. Is this something that popped up out of nowhere or has been slowly building for a while? We need more details to help out.

I agree. that's why I said " IF you eliminate spark and air, and are sure it's a fueling problem," and replacing the filter and pump didn't help.

I replaced the inline carb fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, and the o2 sensor. Its running better now but still hesitating a bit and i still have to pump the gas pedal to go faster sometimes. The checking engine light went off after changing the oxygen sensor.

The hose got so hot it melted this sensor. I dont know what part its called but its connected to a metal hose that goes to the smog pump and 2 metal hoses come out on each side but idk where they go. I cut off the smog pump belt and put a bypass hose to the plastic piece on the air breather but it got so hot it melted it and i noticed the gas pedal was sticking a bit so I disconnected the wire in that part. The exhaust was loud but now its quiet and i can hear it rattling. Its still hesitating a
