Need some help with my 2.8 mfi
Okay 1985 chevy berlinetta 2.8 mfi camaro i have replaced a lot engine wise to get it running smooth finally got it there but im getting smoke right where the crankshaft is when running i know my rod bearing need to be replaced and i have those on the way and when i have driven the car i can only get to 30mph but im not getting high revs that would point to the transmission being bad so i have a feeling my rod bearing could be causing tbis any other input would be appreciated and if you need more details id be happy to give it

Re: Need some help with my 2.8 mfi
Had a similar-ish thing happen awhile back, Mine was in a sort of "limp home" mode. (Engine was healthy though). I disconnected the battery let it sit for 2 days reconnected it and she went back to normal, No more limitations at 30mph.
Hope this helps.

Do you have a 700r4 tranny? I'm not an expert on TV cables AT ALL, but a guy here at roebling raceway awhile back was having mph limitation issues (Didn't want to go above 45) and the TV cable needed serious adjustment. If it's not an automatic I'm leaning more towards a fuel issue aswell. Try some seafoam before tearing into it possibly? I will say getting to the fuel injectors on these engines is super easy compared to my old audi.

Your problem is that it's an 85 with the weak 2.8 crank and weak 700r4 . Dont waste anymore time and money on that unit. Swap it out.

Re: Need some help with my 2.8 mfi
I would agree but mine isnt the stock 85 2.8 it's a 90's swap from an s10 as for the transmission none of the gears are shaved actually just got back from a trip a few days ago and found my tv cable was the cause of it only going 30 and awesomely the clip to hold it onto the throttle broken in half and way too much slack about 1in - 1.5in of slack as for the crank I know the block was made in the 90's and since it's a 2.8 I wouldnt say its impossible for it to have those junk 84 and older cranks actually going to buy a 350 today so soon my 2.8 worries will be turned into a coffee table with a long story lol thank you for all the ideas every I appreciate the feedback I got a plethora of new 2.8 parts any ideas where I should post them? (Besides craigslist and facebook)
