Another Newbie with a 2.8 in need of help!

Hi Guys and Gals. I'm in the UK and just bought an 88 2.8 V6 Camaro for my daily. It's stalled on me twice today, once hot and once cold, and it's stuttering during driving. I've read a thread talking about fault codes but have no idea how to do that. Any clues or ideas please?

hi mate, im in the uk also and have also just got a 2.8!! hehe, i had a 92 3.1 a while back which kept stalling, turned out to be the spark plug gaps - there real sensitive. but if youve just got her id recomend new leads/plugs and cap first it makes a hell of a difference. i paid 40 quid for custom fit leads from USautomotive about a month ago and thought id gained about 5hp!! ran real nice, it prob is somin simple.......

Hello from California! Good job on the new ride--let's see some pics!

Your problems could come from plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, EGR, PCV, air filter, or any combination of the above! I used to have a V6 Firebird that did the same thing when I bought it. It sounds like you just need to invest some money in a good tune up (and maybe adjust your timing). It's not that expensive and it's all stuff you can do in your driveway. Good luck!

Re: Another Newbie with a 2.8 in need of help!

Another 'hey' from California! I have 91 3.1 V6 and get to the UK about once a year on business, so if you need parts brought over, just let me know!

You might want to check the catalytic converter and the muffler to make sure they are not clogged. I had mine overheat and die once and the cat was COMPLETELY blocked. When I had my exhaust replaced, the contents of the muffler poured out like powdered brillo pads...

If you find a mechanic that knows these cars, BUY HIM SOME SHARES IN A BREWERY, since he is worth his weight in beer! These cars are fussy, finicky and temperamental, but my god they are fun to drive and own! You also might want to check out the fuel filter and fuel pump. If the pump goes out, I will tell you right now that it is a BITCH of a job to replace. To remove the pump, you need to remove the tank; to remove the tank, you need to remove the exhaust; to remove the exhaust, you need to drop the rear end- get the picture?
----------
Oh, and if you find other Third Gen owners anywhere from John-a-Groats to Lands End, MAKE FRIENDS, because we can all use mates to help keep these MOST UNDER-APPRECIATED muscle cars on the road!

drdave... I've just bought it and they were done already! I think it was not the last owner but the one before him who did the resto work.

Should I hunt him down for ya??

The poor Camaro is a bit dirty at the mo!

I took the Dart photo myself at the Chelsea Cruise the last time I was there. I used a rubbish camera but a tripod and long exposure, it's my fave pic of the car so far! The car was actually featured in Classic American a couple of years ago with the last owner, I'd had it 3 months so was I bit gutted but also pleased it made it in.

i_love_thirdgen I will take the advice, I plan to see if any fault codes are showing tomorrow so I'll knmow where to start! I may even take a plug out too!!
