3 stupid questions all at once: tranny, exhaust, charcoal cannister
Ok, here they are.
what tranny does an 89 firebird 2.8 auto have. Tried scoping out some torque converters and rebuild kits but don't know what to look for.
If a super high flow exhaust helps the engine run easier and get more power, then why do exhaust pipe leaks supposedly rob power. If this is the deal then it could be why my car has a hair less power after I fixed it. While under the car I was checking out the foot long rusty crack in the pipe, tapped it with a wrench and broke a hole in it.
Does my car have a "charcoal cannister", and if so, where is it so I can have another part to put blame on for performance loss.
(learned new tip today: don't drop dist. module bolt while working over a pit with water&oil puddle in bottom)

most answers all at once:
1) I beleive it's a 4l60E, electronic 700-4r
2) Carbon monxide affecting ddriver so they can't push down on gas pedal as much
3) Don't know, But I know on the 85 Firebird is on pass side by air filter box.

1. It's a TH 700R4 tranny, not electronic. On the 92s, they were called 4L60, (no E) because it wasn't electronic. Same tranny tho.
2. Um, loss of backpressure?? (therefore loss of torque) Just a guess.
3. I have a charcoal canister right next to the air filter. I can guess that you do too. (Same year and tranny and all that good stuff.)

I dunno if you have a charcoal cannister or not but I doubt it will hurt performance. All it does is recover HC's(fuel) from the gas tank and it stores it in the cannister until it can be purged back into the engine when possible.

So that's what that is down there in the corner by the air filter box. Cool. I was thinking about moving it to a different location to make room for my ram air setup when I get around to it.
