I have a 84 third gen with the 2.8 LC1 (non modulated carb). I’m going to be swapping the engine this winter but in the mean time am enjoying the car as a daily and also enjoying beating the snot out of that little v6, and she just doesn’t quit. i’ve driven it for about a month now and recently got it running pretty good. I’ve heard horror stories about these engines being weak ect but mine seems pretty stout in my experience so far. put about 1100km on it in one week, 100km drive with it all in extremely hot summer heat. What i’m wondering is from anyone’s experience in stock form, how well do these engines take a beating? I don’t wanna blow the motor as it’s a daily but i do enjoy punching the throttle and doing a burn out here and there. Should i maybe be a little nicer to it or is it fine haha

If it's running good and the oil is fresh and at operating temp, I see no reason why it can't see some full throttle action. Burnouts aren't really that hard on the parts compared to a dead hook launch. Watch your water temps, mine starts getting warm past the 30 second mark or so.

True that, my water temps have been pretty happy. On a scorching hot day highest jt sees is about 195F in stop and go traffic. On a cooler day runs about 185F. Doesn’t seem to burn any oil past 2k into my current oil level is still up. She seems to run pretty good. i’ve just been fighting this bogging issue with the carb.
