What to do with a V6

I have a 1986 firebird and its got 196,000 miles on it. I dont now what to do with it though with the engine. I just bought a 1984 transam and well I just need know if its worth working on or to just drive around. Got any ideas?

The question to ask...

I assume it's the 2.8 soooo....... I dunno, do you enjoy working on cars? Do you have good cash flow? Do you plan on doing any street racing with it? I had the 2.8 (still do for another week or two....) they aren't that bad really. You aren't going to obliterate anyone with the stock motor, but, you'll be able to take most non-v8 cars from the same era (80's, early 90's). A friend of mine was telling me about a 2.8 that one of his mechanics owned running mid 16's (yeah, pretty slow but...). This thing was just really well tuned, No mods really. If I had an 84 carbed Trans-am, I'd be working that over for racing! Carbed motors got great potential, is it a 350???

use it as your daily driver while fixing up the TA, or use it as a parts car. No major sense in really fixing it up when you have a nicer car.

Could always do what I'm doing and once the T/A is on the road, feed the 2.8 some boost to give it some decent cajones. Plus, yours already has the manual tranny... automatics can get rather boring.. diversity is good.

I'm actually going to sell the V6 and use the money to update the V8.

Contrary to popular belief, there is a LOT you can do to the v6...

1. Use it as a boat anchor

2. Make it into an interesting coffee table

3. Put it in your kids go kart and watch him run 8's

4. Make a really badass lawn mower

5. Make a really really badass weed eater

6. Make a really really REALLY badass blender (and make cocktails for the whole neighborhood in .034 seconds)

7. Try to sell it to a honda kid (hey, its better than what he has now!)

Personally Id ditch mine for another 350 (i miss my iroc) but my dad is paying for the rebuild on it and he didnt want to pay for a v8 so...you take what you can get....

Well i just had an offer from the same guy who sold me the T/a. He has a 350 or 405 sitting in his garage, brand new!!! So anyways he asked me to make a deal with him. I asked what it was and he replied with, "Just make one". I was like holy ****!!!. So know i need to create a deal with this guy so i can get that motor instead of the 305 stock engine. I was thinking of selling the 305 to a junkyard and getting some money out of it but the same dude has a nissan truck tranny sitting in his garage. He asked me if I new anyone who might want it for free. Damn this guy has alot of **** in his garage. So I told him I might have some people in mind. Well gods honest truth...those people would be myself. lol. I was thinking i would take the tranny...advertise it in the newspaper for about two weeks and hopefully sell it. Then selling the 305 I could use that money to buy the 405 or 355. What do you guys/gals think I should do?

Don't hold your breath. I have never known a junkyard to buy anything but for scrap. They will barley pay more then $50 for a junk car anymore. Doesn't matter how good it is or what parts it ha they will say its just for scrap and offer you 5 bucks.

Why when ever I send a car off to the junkyard I make sure its junk. Beat every cornor and seam with a sledge, break all the windows, fill the engine, tranny and gas tank with water and make sure its worth notihng but scrap weight.
