Well, I finally got pulled over for my exhaust. I’ve been wanting to change it anyway, it’s a bit too loud, even for me. Sounds like a straight pipe but it’s actually a catback and I haven’t gutted anything. I’m not sure what brand the catback is, it was installed by the PO who I’ve lost contact with. Looks at least a decade old. I’m looking to only change out the muffler and exhaust pipes.


Do you guys have any recommendations for what muffler/pipes/tips I should replace it with? I’m not looking for anything super loud but still pretty mean, at least mean enough to hide the V6 like the current exhaust does.

I dug through some old threads but most of the videos are dead. I found a clip of the super turbo muffler from dyno max on yt that sounded pretty nice but I’m not a fan of the pipes that go with it. The current pipes on the car go straight back and have square exhaust tips that give it a look similar to the corvette. I’d like to replicate that if possible, I really like how they look. Guess I could put different pipes on it? Thanks

I have the Dynomax super turbo kit on mine. it sounds good, but I also have headers and a high flow cat. You can get the whole kit from Rock Auto for about $250.00.

 

Do you have a video of it running? I couldn’t find any videos of the super turbo system at idle and I am trying to find something a little easier on my neighbor’s ears.

 

Put the most QUIET exhaust on there you can. That will sound the best on a 6cyl

 

I had a borla turbo muffler with two resonators to reduce rasp on my V6 solara sounded great

 

I can record one some time this week after I put my upper intake back on.

I tried to up load a clip but it will not work.

 

Sometimes if you cut the clip down/make it shorter it’ll upload when it wouldn’t before

If you tell me what you named the video, and the name you uploaded it with, perhaps I could search for it and post it up for you. As it is, there are like 6 zillion vids of Camaro or Firebird with muffler as a search term, so we gotta get a bit more specific than that.

Nope, that string of numbers don't help. Do you see how the random video I posted is titled "Camaro pace setters headers magnaflow cat- back exhaust 3.8 v6 ".... Well, when you uploaded your video I'm sure it had you create a title for your video, what is the title you gave it?

I'd ask around your local area for an independent shop that does good work. Usually get just what you want for reasonable money, done right. Around here $200 will get a really good system with custom tips. On my S10 with the 2.8 V6 I got a Dynomax Super Turbo setup and did not like the sound at all. Got a new Walker stock type replacement muffler and it''s perfect.
