Need help, need answers quick.
Ok guys, I'm back on the boards after 2 months of having my car in the body shop, because of a dumba** in a Volvo backing into me.
Anyway, my problem is that when I go to hit the gas, the engine dies/boogs, but then regains itself and goes fine.
My idea is ignition, I've got all new things, including a MSD coil.
Do you all think that the MSD 6A box hooked up to my car would improve idle and starting of from a dead stop performance?
There are no SES codes present and everything else runs fine at highway cruising speeds.

This was happening to me when I first got my car. When was the last time you had a tune up? After I changed my plugs and wires, the problem was gone! hope this helps.
Don't laugh,
You have a vacuum leak.
I'll bet it idles poor also.
When you hit gas, engine rocks, and that "breaks the leak cracked hose, open".
Search all hoses especially the underside.
While you are at it, check all connections.
I do doubt it is ignition, tho. Sounds like you have good stuff there.
Hoses check is free.
Use 5/16" windshiled wiper hose for repairs.
If it's the one by the distributor (PCV set up), use 1/2" hose.

Ok guys i've looked and relooked and looked and looked again.
THERE are no vacum leaks on my engine.
Another thought I was thinking was what about my MAP sensor, could it be going bad but not bad enough to make a code?
Any more ideas? I'm moving away from my first idea of ignition.
It's not ignition, because I replaced everything. I got a new MSD Coil, new cap and rotor and high temp lead wires, pick up coil, new ignition module and last but not least, plugs. Did this all about a 3000 miles ago.
I have also replace over the years IAC (fell apart in my hands it was so bad) and O2 (miles) and TPS (making sure) and ECM ( the IAC circuit was shot in it).
I'm willing to try any idea, keep them coming.
Still flat when you hit the gas to go but then after a pause and boog it goes.
Thanks
Ryan

Can you borrow a fuel pressure guage?
Did you rebuild your distributor?
I got it.
HAVE YOU CHECKED THE STRETCH ON YOUR TIMING CHAIN?
I'll bet that'll it.
That would account for your condition.
How ya do it?
2 ways
1
Put a socket on the crank snout.
Turn over the engine by HAND
Have the distributor cap off while doing this. See how long it takes AT THE CRANK to move the distb. rotor.
2
Take a long scrwdriver to the timing chain cover. Hear how loud it is.
IF CHAIN REAL STRETCHED, you can hear it clack on the cover side.

New chain PUMP gaskets about $50 to your door.
A proper tight operating timing chain beats any higher priced chain. I got Speed Pro & Fel Pro & TRW pump from Northern.
To cheat, loosen distributor bolt. Twist distributor to the firewall. Tighten. Drive your "new" car! I did that for quite a few miles. MADE BIG DIFFERENCE.

Ive tested MAP sensors in the past by taking the vacuum line off of it , if it starts belching black smoke and runs rough with the line off and when you put the line back on and it runs ok than the MAP sensor is doing its job.
Just a little tip

Ok guys I found it, MSD coil, great piece of sh*t, it's going to ground, and glowing like a christmas tree in the dark if you know what i mean. Losing a lot of voltage. Going to get a new one and relocate it because the exhaust manifold are killing my coils. i went through 2 stock AC delco ones before this one.

In the future I recommend to EVERYBODY that you look at your ignition systems in the pitch dark, and see all the voltage going to ground that you LOSE on these camaro ignition systems, it will blow your mind.
I took an Accel coil and mounted it on the firewall.
Easy.
I used two long thin pieces of aluminum, made a bend, hooked it to the firewall, bent down, attached the coil.
Works quite well.
GLAD YA FOUND IT!!
Night time inspection of ignition problems is a VERY SIMPLE TEST.
Open hood at night, engine running, no light.
See any thing ya shouldn't?
