hmmmmmmm

well, i've now launched a full scale attack!!!!!!

my 3.1 is gonna be modded to the hilt!!!!!!!!

(probably be a 3.4 when i get done with it)

but anyways,

heres the mods i am thinking:

if i can get a intake assembly for cheap, i will make an attempt to port it and get a larger throttle body

i'm really liking short throw shifters
since i work at a pontiac dealer, i have FINALLY had the chance to drive a WS-6 trans am fully loaded, some guy brought it in for an oil change and i was the lucky mechanic who it was given to!!!!!! :hail:
the shifter on this thing was nice and short and really smooth

it felt alot like the one on the 91 vette i drove

so, thats on the "to buy" list

i got my headers on the way, need a way to make the EGR fit, any ideas please tell me,

prolly should get an AFRP

i need to know: are there any differences between 2.8, 3.1, and 3.4 cylinder heads

thinking about getting a pair, porting them, 3 angle valve job, and some nice roller rockers

also considering the crower cam and dual roller timing chain at the same time

is my bottom end too old for this?

and the other obvious stuff: MSD, pulleys, chip, etc

Dude, let me know if/where you find a good machine shop around here... cause I havn't found one... I went to ARS Machine around here and the guy was a real d*ck... didn't seem like he wanted to do business with me... quoted me some ungodly amount of money to port cylinder heads... 700-800 bucks...

Told me it was 500 to take my car for a trip on a dyno, but the closest one was in Wall at some race-car builders shop (the guy builds modifieds engines...)

Anyhooo... lemme know what you find... hit up a junkyard for the intake/plenum/base combo... should be pretty common... Cosmo's on Double Trouble Rd. has always had at least one V6 thirdgen whenever I went there, though I havn't been there since they cleared the yard and got new stuff...

yeah xeno, i didnt even think of cosmo's................

i remember they had a red 2.8 firebird......hmmmm

oh yeah, you gotta stop by and see my car........i finally got my centerforce in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, if you want work done, dont pay to have it done, thats part of the reason i decided to go to school and become a mechanic................

$500 to use a dyno???

i dont need to know my HP that badly

we have a dyno in school...................doubt they would let me use it, but you never know

we ALSO have a HUGE machine shop, but the dood who teaches it is a real dick, infact his name is Dick ( )

but maybe, i can give some cylinder heads and an intake to someone in that class and they can port them for me...................

then i guess i can assemble them with the correct weight valve springs and some roller rockers and get a cam and dual roller chain

ughhhhh, my dad is an accountant and he told me i'm getting $500 back from taxes..........so its either a new guitar (already have 5:rockon or some more performance parts which i'll probably buy anyways with my pay, but i also vowed to spend $3000 a year on tools

bought my Snap-On torque wrench, so i got another $2800 to go

i'm thinking air gun, air ratchet, bigger tool case (although for the one i want i can buy an IROC-Z instead for the price) ratcheting box wrenches..............uhhhhh the list goes on and on and on

My schedual for work comes out either today or tomorrow so I'll find out when I'm working this weekend, you say 12 noon to meet you there? That should be good, lemme know when's best for you... I'm warning you though, my car is a POS

Is "school" by any chance the Waretown or Toms River Vocs center? I know some kids that go there...

Go to 60degreeV6.com and you'll find a 62mm TB for our cars it costed me only 285 for the ported TB and bored intake to make it fit, for full power potential. The guy told me they dynoed some cavalier with the intake and TB and got 10 HP to the wheels not too bad for $285.
Plus engine-parts.com emailed me with the 3.1-3.4 stroker engine. The engine only comes in shortblock and longblock though, but I bet we could see some serious Horses from that, even if you just use stock heads with it they said 180-185. And more with a modified cam. If you have intake, headers, custom chip, you really could get some low ets. Peace:rockon:

ME
I paid $800 for a used 3.4
It has everything ya want (cam heads springs, etc.)
BUT
I am lacking on a better breathing intake system (I do mean the restrictive intake set up from my 2.8-WHICH ISN'T THAT RESTRICTIVE!)
All ya need do is swap in a used 3.4, throw on a new chain, increase spark/rebuild distb & the internals (ALL OF IT!) and then increase incoming air to engine.
Then play with the restrictive "Y" pipe at the CC & you're good to go.
Honest.
Go find a 3.4.
FOR YOUR EDUCATION, go to the parts window & look at the GM Performance Parts book and see why start with a used 3.4
ALOT CHEAPER-IN THE LONG RUN than upgrading a 2.8/3.1.
UNLESS
you upgarde all the 3.1 stuff to swap onto a 3.4 eventually in the end.
AND phone SLP in Toms River NJ for your pipe to CC & the EGR pipe to weld for your headers.
Shifter is so easy. ANY aftermarket source has a set up for ya.
Like B & M, & Hurst/Mr.Gasket.
EVEN SLP may have a shifter set up.
$500 IF YA NEED TO, upgrade all the 3.1 stuff on your car now (chain-water pump-fuel system, ignition), have money left over & then go get a shifter. Then eventually get a 3.4.
You win.

karl, you read my mind

i'm gonna do all the stuff i can now that i can pass onto the 3.4 later

thats why i want to hold off on the cam and rockers

but i can do the intake, get some heads built..................

xeno, i go to school at Brookdale community college

thats where they used to send all the GM techs for supplemental training, although that stopped, GM still sends us "new" guys there for training

yes, i've devoted my life to cars (might have to find a new hobby )

yeah, prolly gonna go for a new geetar, but considering the boost in pay i got from having two jobs...........i can afford most any mod within a few weeks

i have decided on my NEXT mod!!!!!!!:

a fiberglass cowl hood

1) cuts unwanted weight
2) looks cool
3) my friend is selling it to me for $40
4) all of the above
5) none of the above
6) do you really care anyway?

after that the sky is the limit

i can very well save for a 3.4 and put that in..........honestly, i'd get it brand new though..............then b4 it goes in, put the cam in, rockers and chain

all part of my master camaro plan

if i get it running 14's i am gonna send it into a chevy magazine and see what they say

oh yeah, while smashing the gas really hard, i can CHIRP 3RD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanx centerforce!!!!!

I could do this after the Christman before last (00) when I got their upgraded clutch from summit. $150 somehthing right?

Though I think I will need to replace it soon. They sure don't last long... All depends on the shift points and the tires. My SZ50's GRAB so 2nd is all it has now . But ohwell I will get it chirping again in no time!

well I am also just dealing with my intake, and the slight mods to the intake manifold. So cue the coming headers, cam, injectors, AFPR and more and there fried!

as it stands now I need $$$. I have empty pockets.

Good point though... looks like I will be making more of those damn headers then I planned. Oh well I quess I could start on my car during the summer and be done in time to wreck it on the winter ice!. LOL

But yes I do plan on designing something(er rather putting my design into metal) I alreay have the layout(s) in my head itching to come out and become reality. I was also thinking of modding some Water pumps for increased flow too? but thats a WHILE down the road.

But depending on when I can finally get these damn headers going dunno, I have to get time to do some serious fabbing, not to mention hit the junk yards to get the base demensions down. And I would like to get a bare block to install it on to make sure it will fit properly as well. But also take into account that as that will be finishing up my V6 will be out for rebuilding/build up so I will sell it to somebody that wants to be a "guiney pig" to test it. Then they can see what it does and post accordingly.
But maybe by the summer. MAYBE sooner. Realistically it will be around summer/early summer time frame.(summer break woo hoo lots o free time to screw around!)
