what do u think of this page about 2.8 stroked to 3.4?

i was browsing the net looking for info on 2.8- 3.4 converstion and i found this page...

http://www.engine-parts.com/GMV6/gm2834stkr.html

i would like to do something like this, now i have read lots of posts on this thirdgen.org about the conversion but i really dont know much about engines.. so its kinda hard for me to follow.

on the site, i cant figure out if you have to buy a bran-new engine or if you can just buy a kit. also i dont know which one i would buy in the price list they have.... http://www.engine-parts.com/GMV6/28strokergpl.html i dont know the diffrence between a short block engine and a long block engine.. all i want to do is upgrade my HP by stroaking my engine to a 3.4L. please tell me your opinions on the best thing to do.. is this a good site? if so what do you reccomend

(my current engine is a Standard 2.8L w/ 116,000 miles on it) i know it says i can email any questions to them, but i would rather hear from you guys, who are not trying to make a prophit off a guy that dosent know much about engines

I paid $800 for my running 3.4 w/30 day warranty
I paid about $100 for gaskets
I sold my left over parts for $105.
Get a running used 3.4 like I did.
Others have. I think 19 or 20 now (18 or 19 autos 1 stick)
No one here has bought this guys kit.

Not really.
I can't stand seeing people get ripped off/spending more money to accomplish the same end result.
I'm happy to help these guys have their hard earned efforts pay off.
A Motor is not a light weight expense.
It's a big commitment and a lot of physical effort-
TO EARN THE BUCKS TO AFFORD THE ENGINE
TO BUST YOUR ***** TO PUT IT UNDER THE HOOD, RIGHT!!
Happy to lend a supportive answer if I have the moment & I'm not barfing from the flu!

thanks for the help KED85, i was wondering if instead of buying a new engine, if i could just get a kit for the one i have now so i dont have to to an engine swap?? if not, then i will most likely go and try to find a used 3.4L (the engine you bught wasnt new right)

tfm, get a old 3.4 engine thats a better deal ... cos a 2.8 can max be stroked to a 3.1~ u cant bore and stroke and get it upto 3.4 cos the block of the 3.4 is different ...

this seems expensive to go with ... just look for a 3.4 engine ...

im sure KED knows more about which cars to look for in order to get a 3.4...

i actually thought of this option... but eventually eneded up gettin a crankshaft (used ) from a 3.1 and bored my existing cars block

cos this deal was just too expensive...

There is ONLY ONE car line you can use.
It's the North South engines from the 92-95 F Bodies.
NO the East West engine will not work.
Answer me this.
IF you remove YOUR engine to "create" what you are thinking, it's just as easy to replace it with the running used 3.4 engine you obtained. Correct

THEN sell all the left over parts ya can. I did

Why complicate this mission. IT IS a dead easy simple swap. IT'S ONLY DETAILED!, to make car operate correct!

I mean, you do want your car to run right, correct?

I sent Dirk an email about having my 2.8 - 3.4 Swap Boogie as a Tech Thread.
Any extra support, send it to Dirk. I've gotten no response yet.
BUT, I did email him last night at 10PM PST

Oh, I could have also gotten a 3.4 with less milage FOR MORE MONEY & a 3.4 w/more milage for less money. I do not want to do an engine rebuild yet. Tht's the logic behind getting a low milage used running engine. PLUS no Milage break in worries!!

im confused about the North South, East West engines... what do you mean by that?

and for the second pard... good point, i actually didnt realize i had to take the engine out n-e ways, also if i get another engine i just might be alble to get one w/ less miles on it than my current one has.

also where should i start looking for this engine? a junk yard maby? or if you know any good web sites that sells em

thanks soo much for your help

Look under your car hood.
That's North South engine.
Now what's an East West?
Investigate your yellow pages, ask friends for wrecking yards.
All wrecking yards want your money.
ASK here. too!
I can get ya one shipped if need be, also ($$).
NO I don't make any money off your purchase!
Yopu'll find your answer.
PS new is $1700 (GM dealer). BUT BARGIN, too!

and just FYi you can safely bore out a 2.8 to a 3.1 and a 3.1 to a 3.4. You just have no more room to bore again. I beleive you can bore out .070 on the 2.8/3.1.

The 3.4(207) block is totally different then the 3.1. It has different bore and strokes. And is designed better.
