Buick 3.8 to my 2.8 Camaro

My uncle has a 3.8 and he's giving it to me, I have a 85 Camaro. How would I configure this to my car?? My Camaro is a 2.8 6 cyl. Would a Buick 3.8 fit in this and how would I put it in?

No Buick 3.8 huh,oh well - I just put mine back in yestarday

Sorry big pic

Now there is nothing wrong with the 3.8 Buick especially the turbocharged 86-87 buick regal ones(as in the pic above)but you didn't state what car it's from and what year.Personally if it's not turbocharged I'd stay away from it cause for the same amount of work you could wap in a small block chevy.

Thanks for the compliment. As for the blocks,I don't know if it fixes it - mine was completely redone, align honed(with steel main caps).I do know that the 3.8L turbo and the 3.8L n/a motors are quite different(different crank, and on some years different block)so it is possible the the n/a 3.8's suck - but I do know the turbo 3.8 is a great motor and can make 600+hp on a stock bottom end

It's a regular 3.8, I am willing to bet that I have to go out and get motor mounts etc. He's giving it to me for free but I have the chance to get a Camaro parts car for $150 and everything matches

I can't beleive you're not done swapping in the Camaro for Camaro project.
Hell, I'd take the 3.8 & sell it.
I'd take the left over 2.8 stuff & sell it too.
Invest in the stock market, the profit.
I can't believe you're not done swapping yet.

Steve,
Obviously you do your own work when it come to swapping motors so I was wondering if you could direct me to a site that details exactly what parts are needed to swap the buick 3.8 turbo into a thirdgen. Am I better off finding a TTA donor vehicle(difficult) or can I piece one together from junkyards and GM parts counters? I have seen a lot of people doing this swap but no one really has a complete list of parts to do this swap. Is it better to start with a TPI car or just any thirdgen is alright? Thanks for your help.

Rich,
As far as I know there is no place for a complete list on which parts are needed, though you've given me a good idea on something to add to my website.
The thing is there are so many variables like what motor mounts can be used and do I want to keep a/c or not.I'll put up a list as soon as I figure it out(have to look through my papers)but you can keep up on what I did and what I used on my site till then www.tta850.com/tgta

As far as what to start with - in my opinion a 1989 TPI car would be best because that is what PAS started with to make TTA's.

The best way to start is an 89 GTA or T/A with TPI and a complete 1986-87 GN/T-Type divetrain(motor/trans).

Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
i'd say do it!!!!!

we need somebody to be a little different

and if he's giving you the motor, thats 1/2 the cost right there

when you get the extra $$$ get the 3.8 supercharger for it from rksport
