Smaller mods to a V6

how much would a performance chain (It think a double roller one), 180thermo, CAI and rebuilt distributer cap with bosch sparkplugs add to a V6 2.8. And how hard is it to install one of those chains, if pretty hard how long on labor.

Take advantage of knowledge & help
BUY HIM A CASE OF LIQUIDS!!
All you'll do is GAIN BACK power LOST over the miles.
How much will that gain be?
Depends.
Do a cmpression test, too!
See what's going on.

Swapping the cam is quite a bit more involved than just doing a timing chain; yeah, it would make sense, but it's more work. He'd have to yank the top of the engine off to get at the lifters!

Cloyes is the only one that makes a true-dual-roller timing chain for our 2.8's. Summit carries it, I forget the part number (call and ask at 800-230-3030), and when I bought it, it was $90. A gasket kit cost me another $20.. it was a Felpro kit, and came with a new front seal. If you have no idea how to put it in, you need to buy the Haynes 82-92 Firebird (or Camaro) manual for $15.

Can't go wrong with stuff from these guys.
IF you are thinking about other gaskets (header?) buy em now & save on the shipping!
Forget the cam, get Roller TIP rockers, 1.6 ratio. That'll wake up the factory cam cheap & easy!

One problem, though, with "waking up" the factory cam- what if the lobes are ground down to crap? When this 2.8 gets rebuilt (or, more accurately, when I rebuild a junkyard 2.8), I intend to check the gross lift of each rocker arm... I bet those suckers are ground down by now. I'd probably even get some power if I put a new factory-grind cam in my 230,000 mile 2.8!

'Course I guess my mileage is an exception around here

Camaro_Hunter_ D,
You can also check out there web site at http://www.northernautoparts.com/ and order a free catalog from there. I got my rebuild kit and crank from them a few years back and it was all quailty stuff. I was very pleased especially with the price.

On a side note, (going by your name) have you seen the new Vampire Hunter D video yet?

I have the coyles double roller.. It fells like it slowed my car down, but I know it didn’t.. It just feels so darn different than the old stock one was. It is supposed to give you 1-8HP they claim.. I know my car runs smoother and it should have been done years ago.
