URGENT whats my gas mileage
Ok guys I have a 86 camaro with 2.8 v-6 and 700r4. Does anyone know how many highway miles I can get to the TANK? I have a 671 mile trip on Tuesday and I was wondering how many times I would have to stop for gas. I am thinking three times. The ignition is working good also and I have the new coil in. almost all of those miles are on I-70 through Kansas.
Thanks

The best I can really tell ya is when I drove 200 miles round trip on I-5 in WA and at the end of my drive I was halfway between the 3/4 and full marks if I remember right. I was averaging about 73 mph I think (90 through Seattle and no ticket
) 30mpg after calculating it.
Hope that helps.

With 100% highway driving I can get about 320-350 miles in one tank. You could STRETCH it and only fill up twice but I wouldn't recommend running the tank dry. So, probably 3 trips to the gas station, each way.
ok thanks guys, im going from the north side of oklahoma city oklahoma to Denver and I am leaving here on a full tank and after that I will have 55 bucks for gas to get there
also from here to I-70 its 232 miles then from there to just inside colorado is 270 miles so I may stop just after I get on I-70 and go straight through kansas non stop.

I have a '92 RS (3.1L), and I get about 30-33 MPG highway. I can get over 500 miles a tank at about 75-80 MPH. Keep in mind though, that as your altitude gets higher, your power will be down, and your mileage will suffer. I know, I live in Colorado Springs, about an hour south of denver.

500+ w/ 3.1L ? Almost callin' BS on ya...
supporting math:
Lets say 33 MPG... then 15.5 gallons for FI car (probably over estimate)
33 x 15.5 = 511.5 mi.
That is a bit of a stretch since that is the out of gas point... might be able to do it, but it's doubtful.

i'm a little 2.8L car, and yesterday i went from st. louis to warrensburg (my college) to my girls town and back to warrensburg. All in all it was about 250mi. My tank is nearly empty now, and was full before i left, plus the car was completely full (with a 300lbs. guy in the passenger seat) and my nice 195lbs in the driver, not to mention a bunch of college junk . p.s. my car looks really nice lowered
. i'm thinking i've got 3 gallons left, so, that'd put me at about 20 mpg, but that's about the best i can do.

Don't blame you for calling BS, but I can get 500 miles on a tank. As you mentioned, the fuel gauge is crying at that point, but I usualy stop at 450-475. Also, the tank is a shade under 16 gallons (the capacity is a bit underrated). I have made several cross country trips, and here's what I always do: oil change before the trip (you wont beleive what a diff it makes), plus I usually run some injector cleaner through the engine. Tire pressure is paramount, so I check those at every fuel stop. Keep a constant speed (difficult for me, since I have no cruise control). Also, I always drive at night. That's a personal preference, but the cooler ambient air temp nets a small power gain, which is noticeable over a trip of several hundred miles. I also weigh down my car a bit for better momentum. Think of what pushes through the air better...a postcard or a postcard-sized brick. True, it hurts your mileage during acceleration, but if you cruise several hours at a constant speed, the loss will be greatly offset. Damn I love road trips. LOL

I guess BS is a little more than I meant... as the math proves it is possible, but I wouldn't tempt fate like that. Of course I'm happy when I get 240 on a tank... I fill up after 12 gallons though, so 240 mi would be 20 MPG. I average about 18 on a given week.
Well I got about 260 to the tank outside of CO and I got about 220 in CO, also I went back to OK through Teaxas and it was a mistake going up through the moutians on the way back, but I did smoke a 85 sport coupe
I also cruised at about 80 mph, I saw a lot of cops in NM though, but at night I was doing about 90 to 95, but with a old suspension the car does not like to go that fast.
