No one has an opinion on this???
No one has an opinion on this??? If you look at the temp gauge, you have 100 9 small lines 220 9 small lines 260. If you figure out how many lines between each one, each line is 12 degrees. My car seam to run at 160f. So I was considering have the fan come on at 190-195f and shut off at 160-165f. The temp gauge does not even get into the read until you hit 228f, which is insanely high, if mine even goes near 220 I freak. And that’s usually cause I forgot to turn on the fan.

This is just about the best switch you can get. Summit has it for $24.95 / $34.34 shipped that is the best price I could find. Your local parts store should be able to order it but I did not have any luck.
Thermostat turns cooling fan on at the desired temperature. Adjustable from 180 degrees to 240 degrees F.
and I guess you can only select when it comes on.

Depends on the 'stat, I guess. For the stock 195'er, the fan comes on at 230 degrees, and kicks off at 195ish. I agree with ya that 230 is way too high! Maybe you could boot the fan on 10 or so degrees higher than your thermostat, and have it kick off when it gets to the temp of your 'stat.

Man summit has fast shipping or free, I ordered it sat and it was here today. The way it hooks up is you stick it in your top radiator hose so it will not even stat to work until after the car has warmed up and thermostat has opened. Very glad I don’t need to remember to turn the fan on anymore, I forgot some times. And now that the fan does not to be on all the time, I can use more of my juice for my system. I got the biggest alt. I could get from the local auto parts store 105 amps for 60 bucks plus core. Most places wanted 100+ for the same thing but auto zone has great prices. AutoZone and advanced auto are great; between them both you can get lots of good parts cheap. Advanced auto has re-maned calipers for 10 bucks each plus core. You can guess I have all new front brakes.

Went for a nice long drive and it worked great, it run right where I wanted it 160-195.
The best part was when I shut my car off and got out, a min later the fan kicks on.
What every tell the fan on the bird in the computer or wherever does not work, so I had a switch.

Congrats on the mod! Just make sure your thermostat never freezes stuck; the fan will never come on. Do you have a temp gauge in the factory spot (driver's side head) that'll tell you if engine temp skyrockets (but "outside" coolant temp is normal)? Did you have to cut your upper hose to fit it in, or did it come with a small length of hose?
Oh, and was that a lifetime warranty alternator? That's the one I have... it's supposed to be a 108 amp lifetime'r; and I'm now on my fourth one. (they die every few years). I actually had to take this last one apart, and spin the rear case- they didn't assemble the rear case in the proper position. (The rear cases rotate to fit a variety of brackets.) It wasn't that bad; the brushes popped out, but I used the paperclip to hold them in place while I put the unit back together.
Made me wonder; when this alternator dies, I might just go and pick up one of those high-amp rebuild kits for the thing. Unless of course my stator (thing that spins) dies...

Oh yea it has a lifetime warranty and I think your right it is 108 amps. I screwed up the first one I got cause I had to spin the back plate myself but I know there is a trick to it. On the second one I got I was more careful and it went fine, it should be able to spin around with out the brushes falling out. And didn’t all thridgens come with full stock gauges? Mine has them all.
And the hook up is crazy I will just post a pic of the directions, but it does work. The throat of the v6 radiator is not as deep so I had to do some bending to get it to go inside farther.

Oh, cool, glad ya knew what I was talking about. I was worried about doing it since it's a "lifetime warranty", I didn't want to mess up the warranty, but hey, screw 'em. They didn't give it to me the way I needed it, so too bad for them if they complain I opened the case.
And hey, that's a slick design for that temp control! I like it!
And no, my '86er doesn't have gauges; then again, it's an automatic. Maybe only '86 manuals got the full gauge package. That's alright, I added an oil pressure & water temp gauge on a gauge pod on the windshield pillar, and a tach that hangs so it blocks the driver's side a/c vent.

wellon the alternator thing I just bought a 160 amp for about 189 bucks.
on the temp thing why did'nt you get the one that clamps onto the outside of your hose? Think there like 15-20 bucks? Summit has them. Made by Jett if I remember correctly.

I searched every auto parts site and even asked the local store and the flex-lite one had the best options and price. I had a hard time finding them. But out of what I found for price and the options I wanted; it was the best choice. If you have a link for the other one I would like to see it, I had a hard time finding just the few I did.

I know if you can find a 80s cs-144 olds 98 supreme alt. For a good price grab it. It had so many options it came with 144 amps stock. Do a pick your own parts for 20 bucks at the junkyard and walk away with gold. Make sure it’s a cs-144 not a cs-105
