Why go to a local parts store? Call Summit Racing at 1-800-230-3030, and request a free catalog. Or visit them at http://www.summitracing.com . Now; there's a catch- you won't SEE v6 parts in their catalog. The reason you get the catalog is to get an idea of parts manufacturers, and what kind of things they carry. Then, you can do two things:
Call Summit Racing, push the # for the part request area, and tell the guy you need "a part # and price for (this) for my 82-92 2.8/3.1 Firebird/Camaro".
Or, you can visit the individual part manufacturer websites. For instance, find an Accel on-line catalog (With part #'s) at http://www.mrgasket.com . Or, find MSD part #'s at http://www.msdignition.com - and click on the link for their free paper catalog.
The wires I run are by MSD. They're the 8.5mm "Super Conductor" wires, and are 50 ohms/foot. (less resistance per foot=more spark to your plugs. Stock wirse are 15,000 ohms per foot!) I buy the "universal" kits, which means, they only come with the spark plug ends attached. They come with a stripper/crimper tool, and distributor ends, and you make the wires to the length you want. I buy v8 kits for that. I do it because I like to route my wires a certain way. They also sell pre-cut kits. 'Fact, I think Accel sells an 8.0 mm pre-cut set for our v6's for $20!
WaynesRS just posted a part # for an Accel cap & rotor kit. If you click on "search" on the upper right hand corner of this screen, search for "Accel", and change the forum from "Search all open forums" to the "-- V6" forum, you'll find it. Also, if you search for cap, or rotor, or plug wires, you'll find more v6 part # info.
A lot of things the v8's use, we can use too. We can put an MSD ignition box and coil on our car, even though they're meant for v8's. (Same goes with Crane/Accel/etc) We can use a v8 spark module (inside the distributor), such as Holley's 891-103. (Visit http://www.holley.com , when you get into the main site, choose the annihilator igntion system, then choose accessories.)
For isntance, the Dynomax exhaust for our cars, part #17493, (summit part # is WLK-17493, WLK is the manufacturer ID), fits V8 f-bodies- but it also fits our cars.
When searching for part # info on summit, either use the box to choose the manufacturer, or put the manufacturer ID in front of the part #. For instance, an Accel 8133 is ACC-8133. An MSD #6420 becomes MSD-6420.
Oh did I mention Summit's much cheaper than those local parts rip-off stores? When I was looking for a tach, a local speed shop wanted $100 for the one I bought for $30!

Also ,if you have the Egr valve pipe running close to the # 3 plug like I do , well alot of us do heh
Order a TAYLOR heat sleave . I chose this brand because you can just buy 1 . I bought one for $8.50 from SUMMIT . IT WORKS real good ! Here are some part #s for ya :
TAY-2523 Silver
TAY-2565 blue
TAY-2561 Red
For the red one , you might have to call them , b/c I was ganna get red but they did not have it online so I just got silver , which looks gold , but I dont care cus its not that noticable and it does its job !

I really doubt yo uare going to gain much of wires
but you do not want to go with ultra low ohm/foot b/c the wires can **** with the computer

But I do belive the accel , msd wires that TomP has and other wires such as Taylor do stand up to hard driving conditions and conditions with alot of heat a whole lot better than ac delcos or just plugwires from the parts store .They look real cool to ! A few weeks ago my cusion saw them on my car for the first time . I didn't even point them out , I had the hood open and he waslked over to the car and right away noticed them and said " GOSH DAMNNNN , those are some biga$$ plugwires " ...I said "there only 8mm "
Also , get some wires separators , not only to keep them from cooking on your manifolds but to keep them from touching so you wont have any crossfiring going on

I believe they can if they are in bad condition and are cut up. The spark won't reach the spark plug if it's touching another wire and you'll get a misfire. My last spark plug wires were torn up and used to make my car backfire because they would touch at where they were broke. Really sucked.
If they are even new wires , sometimes the current from one wire can cause the other wire to fire .Not all wires touching will do this ; but just to be safe I separte all my wires with separators to keep them from touching .Plus in my opinion , I think when wires aren't touching they just last longer .

To see if you've got spark leak, run your engine in a dark place (somewhere at night with no street lamps around) and look for spark "escaping" the plug wire. A blue glow around the base of the plug is normal. Be careful not to get your clothing/hair/etc caught in the fan belts.
As long as the wires are labeled as "resistance wires" and not "solid core", they won't mess with the computer or the radio. Keep in mind you should also use resistor plugs, too.
Oh, before anyone asks, any "exact replacement" plug is a resistor plug. You have to mess with part # lookups to do otherwise.

In regards to crossfiring in plug wires, it can happen whenever any two wires are touching for an extended length. What happens is that the wire that has current running through it also produces a magnetic field. That magnetic field can induce a current in the wire it is touching, causing that spark plug to fire. You have to remember that it takes a lot less voltage to jump the gap on a spark plug in a cylinder that is on the intake stroke than the one on compression. This is where you run into problems if you start to get a crossfire. Hope that helps, Joe
I am running MSD's 8.5 superconducters as well. And I also bought the V8 set to have extra and it turns out that it was worth the cash. Abour 6 months ago I had a real bad hesitation, my #3 boot was touching the manifold and cracked the boot so the spark was arching and the plug wasn't firing. Spending the extra cash on a V8 set is a good idea if you are gonna cut them yourself. Now I am finally gonna by wire spacers and boot guards, some of the boots really take a beating in there....particularly my #1 and #3.
