Info on the turbo project

Ok costs to date....

$52? turbo.. Ebay
$51 Intercooler. Ebay (won that one last night!!!) and several more probly... damn multiple bidding...
$180ish FMU (new Vortec) through my business. Hell it beats $300 at Summit!.
$10.50 Oil Cooler. Ebay(win tomarrow)
$15 Boost guage Ebay (VDO Phantom too!)
$110 Injectors 19LBhr (cost for injectors and price for cleaning@ cruzin performance)

Expected HP gain? 50-70. A system that can be swaped to a different engine? Priceless....

Cost to us is going to be a little more... figure in another 120 for the FMU as cost, and then how much more for tubing... the shop that did my muffler Saturday could probably do it for 300ish... fully welded.

Still... a turbo set up for under a grand... thats cool ****...

Good luck getting it together.

The FMU I will sell through my business for 200... 80 Bucks cheaper...

The tubing. get through Lowes/ Home Depot and get the rubber connectors/w clamps. Hell even JC Whitney. Just have to get the bend angles right. And really you don't want the system welded. You want it connected with those rubber tube connectors.

yes, the rubber connectors allow the system to rock & not brake.
Which FMU did get?

Me too heh!

Large Chamber heads $50
42# Ford Injectors $250
Headers $110
Two .60/63 turbos $200
Walbro INtake FP $110

I should be getting around to ripping everything out that i don't need this weekend, ac, battery relocated, charcoal canister ditched, and the start on the headers as soon as they get here. Now the hood clearance of the turbos is another problem....

just a slight cost diff , but there's your money for oil lines & vaccum hose. I've also read about something that would increase the voltage to the fuel pmp depending on the amount of boost. Caint remember what it's called or how much, just something to think about.

and why ditch the canister, it serves a purpose

oil lines.. Personally I plan on doing S/S Braid W/ AN fittings.. abour what? 3-4? feet of hose.. so 12-15 bucks. 4 fittings.. 4 ea. 16?. Your thinking of a "booster" pump? the F/P only has one setting stock... ON:P Remember right now I am only dealing with 5-7 PSI Nothing that a stock pump could not handle. And BTW I plan on keeping my canister on for SES reasons... LOL
lets break out the clac...

turbo & intercooler... $100
FMU...........................$140
Misc oil line/ fittings....$40 (to be safe)
BOV............................$90 new(Ebay for less)
Timer(BlitZ FATTII)......$110 (new) I recomend this one!
Headers.(HEHE).........$150
Injectors....................$110
.................................................................
$740.... that equals about $11.38 per pony... not a bad investment.

The intake tubing I think will come out to around $60? if done right... so $800... so make that $12.30 per 1 Hp at 65 gain...

hm..

Nice, wish mine came out to be that cheap, but I just keep adding more and more things here. heh. I should be done to a little bit lower than 8 to 1 compression, so i should be able to run about 10 to 12 pounds(I'm praying).

I'm ditching the canister cause i don't need to worry about emissions, and it's in the way of where the pipings gonna go, i think! heh, haven't quite got to that part yet. Are you going with a custom prom or anything like that? that's the last thing in my way of completing my project, and i still haven't decided what I'm going to do. GOod luck man.

Yes the prom will eventually find its way in there... Right now I am only looking at 5-7 like I said so Prom stuff is not all THAT critical. Just the FMU and other parts that all turbos require... when I rebuild I am going to get H/P 9-1 pistons.. but and going to replace crank shaft with teh shorter 2.8 one. It has a 2 mm shorter stroke so that will offset the 9-1 nicely. It should come out around 7.7 or so... depending on the head gaskets I get. THEN I will boost it to 17 Easy...then the prom and the "serious" tuning factor comes in.

I'll have some pics soon, friend of mine has a camera he said I can use. I've got two of the .60/.63 turbos off the manual t-bird's and cougars, the little bit bigger ones. I'll post pics of everything as soon as i can.

Hey camaro...

I was wondering if you cleaned your turbo up yet? One of mine needs to be cleaned, the aluminum and things, i was just wondering what you used to do it? or what i should use rather. I still have to take mine apart and spin the center section which i'm assuming i can do so that the oil drain line drains down, and not to the left, heh.

man i wish i knew more about engines, so if i did this to my 2.8 engine it would work wouldnt it? and you said you can swap it to a new engine if you get one, this might be the way i go to get more power for my baby engine, and later on if i want to switch to a 3.4L i could swap the turbo out into the 3.4?? sorry im retarded when it comes to engines

I ran parts cleaner through the oil passages, and hit teh turbines with brake cleaner.. worked like a charm.

And yes this system is swappable to a 3.4. Direct bolt over. But the better thing is IF you decide to get a V8 down the road, alot of the parts are STILL swapable...

all you guys will ****.

"So what's the key to performance? Big boost!"

"That run [first 12 second run] was extremely rewarding for me, but not for the driver of the beautiful '63 Sting Ray, who lost by over 30 lengths!"

"Imagine how the modified Mustang racers feel when Mahon and his monster put them on the trailer, then load up the kids, the dog and the barbecue and head for home. Thirteens in a Caravan! What's next, 12's in a dump truck?"

This is the home page of the quickest Acclaim and the first minvan ever in the 13's!! Many a musclecar owner has gone home pulling his hair out after an encounter with one of my bad boys.
See what I mean, below!

:hail: its all about the boost, 4 banger minivan doing low 13s high 12s.

why do I have a v6????

very much on topic, this dude has some great info about using boost for more power, his intercooler and muffler test are very informative.
