gtech

i got a gtech as an easter present, me and a friend checked it out, followed the instructions of getting the vehicle's weight... came up with 3560lbs (sounds odd but if you look on your door, it has a sticker of total weight of vehicle with 4 180 pound passedngers)(u had 2 subtract the empty 2 seats/non existant passengers, so i entered it in the gtech, went through 1st gear best hp readout i got was 136rw hp. i took it to a freshly paved blacktop parkinglot, i put it into gforce mode, and i hit 1.01 spontaneous g's on a left turn.
lateral g's from acceleration was a best of .54g's. 0-60 was 8.1

i wanted to get the 1/4 mile done but there arent any long/straight enough roads

tested my aunts 2000 saab95 weighing in at a little over 4400 the max hp was 184fw hp 0-60 was 7.01 best spontaneous g's were .65g's

i tried to test my friends 95ish ford probe, we got the weight of 3300lbs and a max hp of 130 fw hp? this low readout sounded very strange (160ish stock crank hp),it was probably mostly because the transmission feels like it is slipping allot..???

i got to see if this gtech is truthfull, so ill keep testing more cars as soon as i can

My experiance with the Gtech is that its just another toy. Finding a road thats long and straight isn't a problem, finding a road that's smooth enough is.

Sounds like a fun toy.
I was sitting here trying to figure out how you made it to 60 in 8.1 seconds. must be the floor mats

Since your GTech is an accellerometer and measures forces by gravity, if you have a bumpy road or a road with gentle inclines and declines (like most country highways) then its not going to read accurately. They also tend to freak out if you have a ton of wheel hop.

For the GTech to get close to accurate, you've gotta find an arrow straight perfectly level smooth road and you've gotta use that same road everytime to guage performance increases, from mods etc... After about the third night that you scream by that farmers house with your hair on fire, you're likely to a) get the cops called on you, or b) get a load of buckshot thru the hatch.

Taking the car to the strip is easier and more dependable, not to mention legal...

ROFL! Haha, dammit, now everyone knows I'm not working... maybe I'll blame the laughter on stress?

I've got a G-tech still in the box from Christmas (girlfriend's parents bought it for me). I really need to unpack it soon. That reminds me! I posted my exact vehicle weight here a lonnng time ago... 7 or 8 months ago, when I last went to Englishtown Raceway Park... I pulled my car onto the scale. I wonder if I can find that message! (I have no more door sticker)

Okay, I found it; "new track times" was the title of the message, back in 2000, my car weighed in at 3370 pounds. (That's with the steel wheels, P225/60r15 front, P275/60r15 rear, 1/4 tank gas, and me.) Oh WOW, is that for real? I've had these rear tires since 2000? Damn, way to go BF Goodrich!

by the way(bumpy uneven farm road) you are telling me a 7.9 isnt accurate, i am gonna say that yes the road is straight, no there are no smoothe/harsh dips in the road, its perfectly flat. an i do my best not to slip the wheels, let alone hop them... today i hit a 7.93 to be exact

i had a best of 8.2 with my stopwatch, the gtech 0-60 dosent use a programed vehicle weight.. it is quicker that a stop watch because it only turns on when the car starts moving...

tomP: the weight is only needed for the hp readings, the weight i posted was 3560lbs because i had a friend and me in it... for the 0-60 it was just me in it...

my sisters 95 civic EX vtech read 107 hp with 0-60 in 9.1

Thanks, RPS! I'll just set the weight to 5,000 pounds, then. I don't want a 1/4 mile reading out of this gtech. They say all 1/4 readings from the gtech are "more accurate" than the racetrack, and therefore "faster" than what the timing eyes at a track will tell ya.

Yeah, that might be a good selling point, but what if everyone else on the planet goes by the racetrack timers?? Who cares if the g-tech is more accurate, I'd rather get a 1/4 time from the same spot that everyone else does. Why brag about a gtech'd 16.2 1/4 if you can never duplicate it at a track?

I asked for the gtech to measure any small improvements that a mod might make... plus, after reading the manual, I can't wait to find an open parking lot and see how many G's my car can pull in a tight circle!

u can also use another way to time...

use the ALDL connector and connect it to a laptop and one of the software (ALDLMON) that i have does everything else ... it reads speed and RPM from the car.. and calculates the rest...

im gonna check that one out soon...i already have the connector which i beuilt some time before..waiting on my buddys laptop..

Oh yeah, that's right! I forgot about that message of yours on the PROM board. I gotta search for it and build that circuit; thanks! Only one problem I have tho- that software you linked to is for Win9x - my little 'ol 386sx16 $50-three-years-ago laptop would never be able to handle Win9x. Did you ever try one of the DOS based monitor programs?

yep...
the dos based pgms work too... thats what im trying tweak right now...

cos im trying to put that Dos software written in pascal and another one written in BASIC onto a 20MHz RISC microcontroller that i have right now which has LCD support (20char X4 line LCD)

ill try to dig that dos software that worked...

when using pin A&M 8192 baud aldl all the software out there for DOS work...

but 160 BAud which is easier to write on low end processors like 20MHZ only a few work...

IM still spending mostove my tieme coding that ALDL stuff in assy code for that RISC controller i have..
(wouldnt it be cool to run a independent ALDL monitor in the car....w/o all the laptop ****)

will the laptop even have 8meg of RAM? probly not a 386.
why not use the gtech as a refrence, got to the track, get those numbers, compare, & there is your offset. Do this a couple times to get an average, & after each mod.
