How's this sound?

Background info first.

Tonight I found myself in a unique situation. I was sitting at home watching some show about evolving whales and a buddy of mine called asking myself and my wife out to a bar to hang out for awhile. The whales were getting old so we headed out. Yesterday my buddy picked up an 87 Mitsu Starion so I was looking forward to seeing the car. Since I've been driving the Formula all week and just got the V6's steering column all back together we took the V6. Thru the normal course of conversation the subject of a friendly street race came up. So at 10pm, we were calling everyone we knew to go racing. By 11pm, we had no one interested but we still wanted to run. We headed to the local makeshift track and lined up. Loaded and launched, ran to the end and gave my friend a thumbs up as he reached the end. He made a comment about the boost not building from a stop so we did a rolling start on the way back. As we were heading back the way we'd come we see a car turn towards us. A moment later we realize its one of the guys we called. Lucky for us lowtech bastards he brought a police scanner and a Gtech. A few seconds later another guy we called showed up. So I raced everything with the trusty 3.1 nag. Put down the Prelude and the Beretta. They wanted to Gtech the Prelude so we headed for a flat road, after that I Gtech'd the 3.1. And now for the real reason for this post, how do my numbers sound? To be honest I don't have time to compare to past posted numbers so let me know what you think.

17.00 @ 82mph

I think its pretty good for 150,000 miles, automatic with bald tires and almost completely stock... In comparison my Formula ran almost identical numbers to my track numbers, and my wifes 3100 in her Grand Am pulled mid 17's on the gtech.

Hey Drew, I'm new 2 this board. But I'll give you my opinion anyways. I think those times are very impressive especially for a 3.1 v6 with moderate mod's. I have a 1986 camaro with a 1989 2.8 v6 mpfi firebird motor. And I have a hi flow cat, with a flowmaster. And a home made ram air "thanks 2 this site". And I also have ported and polished heads. And just 2 day I boosted my fuel pressure to 50 psi, and it feels like a big difference. Last time I went 2 the track I ran a RT of .689, 1/4 time 17.325@78 MPH. I can't wait 2 bring it the track again 2 see how much my recent mods have helped me.

sounds pretty good. Check this out, for a couple hundred bucks you'll be hitting low 16's.

2.5 dynomax catback 150
crane compucam 2030 175
B&M shift kit 25
home made cold air 50
under drive pulleys 100
aclle 8mm,ho coil,cap rotor 100

with those mods I was able to hit a 16.18 at 83

I added 3.4 pacersetter headers, and 3.73's and got it dwn to a 16.09 LOL!

my problem now is I;m making to much power for the open rear, somI get bad 60 foots, otherwise I should have a 15 second machine.

good luck.

If you go to technical articles on this site. There is an article about making your fuel pressure regulator ajustable.

I recommend reading it.....It could make a big difference if you have enough cfm's of air to match the fuel psi.

I'm not going to worry too much about making this engine faster. Free mods are ok but I don't want to spend any money on it.

I've been making afpr's for the Fiero guys in town for the past few months, problem is on the 2.8 and 3.1 in the fbody there isn't any decent way to get at the adjustment screw...

How many mods do you have drew? I want to run 17's or lower. My friend got a 94 v6 camaro and he ran an 18.5 in the quarter! And he keeps looking at my car thinking he can beat it. I want to beat him!

well the stats on the beast are:

1991 Firebird W68 Lexan T-Tops, 95 Formula leather seats, 3.1 w/130,000-150,000 miles, used 700R4, bald tires, Pirated WS6, etc...

The only non stock parts, or mods are the straight pipe in place of the cat *previous owner cut it off), Economizer type fake dual exhaust *tiny*, 3 out of spec fuel injectors *read borderline bad*, parts store OEM replacement Fuel pump, I removed the 3" to 1" snorkle off the stock aircan and installed a K&N. I think thats about it, unless you want me to go into Oil, Plugs, and wires... In which case Castrol GTX 10W-30, Bosch Platinums, Champion ****wires, etc... Of course the timing is set at 11* and all the normal tune up crap has been done. I guess technically you could say the spare tire has been removed for a little weight savings, truth is the previous owner managed to lose it.
Ah... yeah, I ran it with the headlights off to cut down on wind resistence.
