hehe nice title eh? I recently rebuilt a 89 RS 5 spd 2.8 with accel injectors, ported and polished heads, roller rockers, roller lifters, roller cam, 30 over pistons, k&n's and ACDELCO plugs (i swear by em) now here is my problem...i do not have an exhaust on it as of this moment (open headers...i ordered them from autozone..have no idea what brand..they're ugly) and it sounds like a pissed off bumble bee (only down side to a 6 cyl. is the sound conmpared to a 8) i want a throaty as deep as possible yet loud sound..what do you guys think? and yes...it flies..
i think i may have bypassed my questipon it is this: what exhaust would you guys recommend for me to get the sound i want...i was thinking of a dynomaxx 2.5 inlet and dual 3 outlets
your gonna open up a can of worms with this question, half the people will say Dynomax and the other half Flowmaster. I myself have the Flowmaster 80 series which is made for our cars but since i've never had a dynomax muffler (i got the hi-flo cat though) or never heard one i cant say anything about it but i love my 80 series flowmaster, people often tell me it sounds like an 8.

first things first....whatever brand information you can find out about your headers i am sure will be greatly appreciated around here. at lest try and find a part # or brand name somewhere. we would all appreciate that to see what you got, and what fits. did you have to have the headers modified at all, or did they go right on? did you do it yourself?
on the exhaust note, everyone here will give you a different reccomendation. basically it goes like this. dynomax makes 2.5" catback that will bolt right up to our cars and you can do it yourself in your drive way. from the reviews i read, it sounds great! i have never heard one in person, nor has anyone ever posted a soundfile of one. flowmaster is LOUD, and if LOUD is what you want then give them a consideration. you will want the 80 series, but a lot of people who have them have gotten sick of them real fast because of internal noise, others will always swear by them. i have heard sound files, and for me they sound very raspy. not my cup of tea. and to through a wrench into this whole reply, i personally purchased a hooker aerochamber muffler. its not the loudest muffler you can buy, but the internal resonance is tolerable, and lets you still have a conversation in the car at night. but you know its back there. and personally the sound was perfect for me. not raspy, but very throaty....i absolutely love it, and some others here have purchased it at well and continue to provide good reviews. however, you will have to buy the muffler (70.00ish) and go to a muffler shop and have a 2.5" setup made for you. depends what you like. i happen to have soundfiles of my hooker and someone elses flowmaster if you would like to hear them. i would also suggest taking a look at these charts from holley.

Who made the headers? I find it hard to believe Autozone even knows what headers are
I'd go for the Dynomax, also. (Actually I already have, haha!) #17493 (Summit Racing # is WLK-17493) is the Super Turbo cat-back... dual opposite end 2.5" tailpipes, 2.5" intermediate pipe, and fits the stock hanger locations. Summit wants $160 for it. Dynomax also makes an Ultra-Flow catback, which I think has 3" tailpipes, is all stainless, and costs twice as much. It has some sweet looking tips on it, though! But I haven't heard the UltraFlo on a V6.

hooker aerochamber.... i may be a bit biased considering i have one, but i love it. especially when you're cruising at around 2500rpms....... uggghhh, now i want to go out and drive and it's 11:40pm...
the headers are a set for a 89 gmc s-15 2.8 i had to have a shop modify them...the rollercam was built by a guy here who builds nascar engines...costed me a pretty penny..so far 49% say flowmaster 80 49% dynomax and 2% hooker...im leaning towards flowmaster cause thats whats on my 73 z-28 (non factory 327 and sixspeed..headers, 3 inch exhaust flowmaster 40 series and pipes come out nascar style in front of rear wheels..)

Flame bait but
what ever you do; run the pipes all the way to the back of the car, then use a chrome 2 way splitter on each. make sure it sticks out past the back of the car/bumper 3-4 inches. this gets all the sound behind the car and not under it. super quiet ride for you, superbike sound for everyone else behind you.
Just like a bike you hear it from miles away, just gotta get the sound out from under the car. It sounds better than a v8 when you rev them gears.
going to my friends in walbridge he can hear me down shift as i roll into the 25MPh zone and his trailer is still a 1.5 miles away
caddy cornor from when I enter walbridge with lots of houses and other trailers in the way.
