hmm...weird engine noises...

today when i shut my car off, i revved it to 2k and turned off the ignition, kept my foot to the floor while it was revving down to let it have a little more air. when it got to about 250 rpms, i heard a metallic scraping sound for about 2 seconds, then the engine stopped with a series of violent shudders. it does this every time i turn it off. any ideas on what this could be?

hmm. My car did this last time when I first started it because I was away from home for a month. But it never did it the last 3-4 times I had it running.

Yours sounds like a problem you should get fixed if it happens everytime. Someone should knowwhat this is. But This does not sound good.

Yes FI engines CAN diesel. Sounds like maybe a dry bearing scrape?. High pitched squeel? but with the engine still spinning(RPM) there SHOULD be oil flowing. You MIGHT have a semi clogged passage.

Why would you shut the motor off at that high of RPM's? Just curious.

i was thinking along the lines of a dry bearing, too. i dont get why it only does it for a second or two, and only when it's turning off though.

I know when I had many a Carbed motors I would "rev" it right before killing the engine. I found it usually started a little easier. Maybe just a "myth" of carb's.. but it sured seemed to help to me... But FI cars.. not unless you are showing off.. and rev to 2K it not a "high RPM"... 5k is high.. 2K is a tip of the pedal...

I would release your foot from pedal. let the engine die. By pressing the pedal down you may have caused a "surge" and the engine tried to rev up... Hense noise.
