My car.

Well, I checked my timing tonight b/c my uncle informed me that he set it by ear without disconnecting the EST so I figured that could be the cause of the dying at stop lights occasionally and the pinging at every throttle position except WFO.

28 degrees. Yup. 28. Supposed to be 10, it was at 28. So we shot at setting it at 14, but it's set at 16 b/c it shifted a little bit tightening it.

Runs SO MUCH BETTER. No more pinging, much more low end response.....feels totally different. Now if I can just figure out my speedometer, I'll be set...AND TOMP...I need to know exact specs of the bolt that secures the tranny mount to the tranny. I know mine's 1/2" but dont' know length, thread pitch andblah blah blah. One of them was missing this past go round.

Drew....Tom...CHD, anyone. My TC is locking up. Could my VSS still be my speedometer culprit?

NOW THAT'S A TECHNICAL POST.

Was this on your 92? How did you set your timing? I was told by mechanics that you can't set the timing and it was all controlled by the computer? I'm so confused!!

if the vss controls the tcc, & the tcc is working properly, maybe the spedo itself is crapped out.Just as stock tachs eventually will go, if the spedo is electronic as well, alwatys a possibility

maybe check wiring for chafing or something.

Hey Billy,
Tranny bolt, 15mm head, non-shouldered (?), 8.8 grade, machine fine thread, pitch unknown, length about 5/8" long.
Wrecking yards, tranny shops, dealerships!
I pass on the speedo question

Ked...my head is 1/2" not 15mm....so maybe ours are different.

Elevario, your mechanic is a dumb @$$. Disconnect the EST (brown wire over by the AC Condenser) and then loosen the distributor hold down bolt. Attach the timing light to the number one spark plug wire and turn on the engine. Rotate the distributor until the timing mark is where you want it to be then tighten the nut back down and kill the car. Reconnect the EST. Clear your computer (you'll have an EST code 42) by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 5 minutes while you throw back a Coke, Dr. Pepper, Bud, Coors, or any beverage of your choice. Then reconnect, start the car up and take it fora 20 minute drive for the computer to relearn itself.
