desperate times call for desperate mesasures = update
well as most of you know the plan was to take out my 6 speed and sell my current iroc as i found what i was told as a rust free, clean iroc HARD TOP in new york
so i collected a deposit on my current iroc, sold the black ta, 4 engines 3sbc 1 and sold the ls1
well after one month of planning and sort, i finally had all the money together and was about to complete the plan, i was going to fly into buffalo drop the car off at the shippers, and than vacation.
well i finally got the pictures of the undercarriage and its all jacked up and is not rust free. its clean to new yorks standards but not for mine, someone also didnt know how to jack a car up they used like a bottle jack all over the underbody.
so the new plan give the deposit back, and i am doing a frame off in a unibody lol no im striping it down to bare body so all interior, all removable panels and gonna go through the car
roof will be changed to a hardtop, im going to fix that hacked up alarm install , replace the carpet, strip the engine bay and paint the entire car.
it will cost me a pretty penny but ill be involved the whole way so not as much as you think. and the help will be from a professional body man of 30 years who does show cars.
so when i put her back together i will also replace the engine with all my goodies and a new shortblock to be determined.

Did you consider buying the hard top car and fixing whatever (I'm assuming minor) rust issues it has? If you're going to do a 'frame off' anyway, it doesn't seem like a bit of rust would be that much of an issue. Plus you won't have to deal with any possible roof issues.
I really admire the amount of thought and research you're putting into this, but it seems like it may be a LOT of effort for minimal gain.

i mean for the money i already know my car and a roof change is better than a whole floor pan replacement in my opnion
i mean after all there were only 1,300 g92's produced in 89 not to mention since my car was orignally a hard top it makes sense to me.
what i will be doing is this reversed

Oh, your car was converted to a t-top roof after it was built? Are you going to just sawzall a donor roof off of a car at a junkyard or what?
I guess your car is rare, but it's not like anything is or will be left stock on it anyway from a collector point of view, so I don't think that should really factor into the equation.
I think you should do it if you are willing to commit the time and money, and you are absolutely sure it would make you happy. It would suck to do all that work only to not like your car in the end. If nothing else it would be good restoration experience for when you decide to do work on a more desirable car (I know I sure wish I had dumped all my time and money into something more collectible and socially accepted.

some guy off craigslist.
no its not but it does need a paint job, but upon close examaning more than the normal person, you can see little ripples and dents normal for any car. so most all of the panels im removing have to come off for paint , to be striped, and prepped anyway.
pretty much, going to pnp gonna cut me a roof and than have the new one grafted on.
i will be more than happy with the finished product im sure. also jermy it has been shown that orignal restorations on classics dont sell for as much as
classics with modern updates, infact i seen two 69 camaros both frame off's
one orignal motor all matching and back to facory specs sold for 30K
same car auction they put a blower, new gauges, updated interior, and alot of modern mods mixed with classic ques frame off and that one went for 75K
also its a known fact that 3rdgens are increasing in value every year and will become extremly sought after and expensive
in my opnion the experience and knowledge im going to gain from this will far exceed any dollar ammount i can put on this project.

Well that really sucks! I hate it when people don't know what they are talking about.
I remember about 10 years ago I went about 700 miles to go look at a 70 Z28 all original that was supposed to be mint. When I got there the car had been repainted (which I new about) but had major rust and was basically a numbers matching parts car. It was so rusty I was not sure what was holding the rear leaf spring in.
I spend over 20 hours driving and the money for gas to go look t some peice of crap.
Sorry to hear about your deal.

Well that is great if you still have one.
All is not lost.
So the red dragon will be reborn then.

I grew up in CT and I can say its very hard to find older rust/rot free cars in the north east. Thats one of the reasons I went with a third gen. You could still find them pretty much rust/rot free. My 87 has a couple rust spots but those can be fixed easily. Most of the 60's, 70's, and 80's cars are all rotten from all the salt used during the winter.
When I go to PNP I still cant believe how rust free the cars are in there. On a daily basis you can always see older cars on the road but in CT you'd never see them.

That's why everyone wants a "CA car".
Both my first and thirdgen are original CA cars and not a spec of rust, although the IROC's K-member and frame rails have quite a bit of high speed surfing on them, some from me

My 1s gen and 3rd gen are also original CA cars.
It is great to have a rust free car. My 67 does not and has never had any rust. I have had both of them for over 20 years.

As a courtesy, I've re-opened this thread per the request of the original poster and have deleted the unnecessary post.
Normally I'd rather just nip these downward spiraling threads asap to avoid further BS, but I will give this one the benefit of the doubt that it will stay on topic.
I've got better things to do than clean up this BS, so show yourself and others some respect.
If you need further clarification on what happened and why, please PM me and keep it clean in here folks.
