Tires Rub.
Tires Rub.
I have an 88 T/A with GTA rims and 245/50/16's.. When I turn the wheel all the way to right or left lock, The front tires rub the back of the inside plastic fender cover.. Not alot but enough to leave rub marks on it.. Just wondering if anyone elses does that or not.. I have eibach pro drop springs on it but It did it before I put them on too.. Thanks for any info..

My cars an '82 but the tires touch the inner fenderwell in the same places since 95 when I put on 245/50/zr16s..
The car is lowered now with 275/40/zr17s on firehawk rims and rubs in the same place still. Not enough to damage but enough to shine the plastic...
I guess the best warm fuzzy I can offer is that after 7yrs of this no damage or excess tire wear occured..

I had the same problem(88 formula 350) when I bought this car new. Shortly after I found a little known recall where they have a new inner wheel well that goes BEHIND the fender lip not on top. Apparently this was only to be done if the customer complains. I have the pro springs on also with the 245-50-16 tires and have no problems. Unfortunaley it was so long ago that I dont have any part no. to offer but the inner wheel well was replaced free at the dealer . Hope this helps.

This seems to be more of a common problem to firebirds they just don't have the room that the camaros have up front.. there is a new inner fenderwell for sale from nextgenparts.com that may be the inner attachment type mentioned in above recall..
From looking at your car I would think you know what is right and what is not, assuming you have a good alignment, and your GTA rims are not back to front (all my wheels have had the same offset), I would still say it is really not a problem unless it starts to wear your tires or burn through your inner fenderwell.

My car has always done it, and its NOT lowered-
235/60/15's rubbed, and my current 245/50/16's rub, formy wheels, fronts on the front, backs on the back.

Both GTA's that I owned made a rubbing sound when I turned the wheels all the way to the left or right and one even had the original tires on it, so I guess this is normal with the 245 size stock tires.
