That's a great looking wheel. Does that guy Mike still do the CNC work for Foose? He worked for Boyd then went on board with Chip.

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"

I am trying to get a set, I have been in contact, with Boyd Coddington Jr, via his mobile device, and am playing a game of email tag. I have the money in hand, I just want them for when I return from Iraq, yea they are going to cost as much as my car, but its what I want. Thank you 1bad91Z for doing what you did to make this happen.

Mike, shame on you! if I would of known you called foose, I would have tripled the price..........just kidding. Chip and I remain good friends. Chip is a genuine guy and has a huge heart. I have to be honest though, my wheels are better than his.......
lol Yea, that was actually SEVERAL months before I even knew that you guys made custom one-off wheels. Before, I had the misconception that your company only made wheels of your own design!

I couldn't have picked a better company to deal with. Boyd and Vanessa are awesome and the quality of wheels that Boyds produce is second to none! I'm very happy with the end product.

Oh I will, just playing the email tag game now with Boyd Jr via his mobile device, sucks being at a small base, I do have the internet, just no phone. A few days and I will be breathing the fresh air of the USA, and will call to order my wheels. Wish they had an order form on the web site for these wheel, o'well.

This is awesome I just have to say. I'm glad to see someone pulled this off. Congrats on a very unique and very awesome wheel! I believe it will sell if they decide to keep making it. Awesome car man and awesome work!

They are nice. put some red paint in the inlays, for us IROC owners and they may sell like hotcakes. And im not trying to bash the ones you already did, they are nice.

You did an excellent job at making the rim that you want 1Bad91Z and you are giving others the chance to have what you thought of and made a reality...it's sad to see that alot of people complain about everything all the time on here...my philosophy is if you want it that bad then you will get it because no one else will have it!

Great job man!

Way to go Mike. The wheels look nice - looking forward to seeing them in person. If I can ever get my parking brake fixed...I might have to look into some one-off crosslaces Now that we've got a vendor connection and all

You can get them as wide as you want. My rear wheels are technically 17x10 , but 17x11 overall (you have to account for the 1/2" soft lip on both sides). Adding the painted accents in any color would be fairly easy.

When I said wider...I was mentioning the stock wheels. I like what you did man...very cool. If I was still running stockers, I would def. be looking into these.

You can get any wheel widened, not just stock ones.

I had my 17" x 9" ROH Snyper wheel widened to 11", to fit 315s. Then everything but the outer lip powder coated flat black.

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"

Wow, someone did it! I always liked the larger Iroc wheels but I cringe when people put them on 91/92 cars. I'm like most of the others on here and wish it was a little more stock looking (colored on sides of spokes and more of a machined finish rather than polished) but never-the-less they look good.

Can you use the stock center caps or are they different? If different does the stock center sticker fit in the hex the same?

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"

The stock centercap wont work with these wheels. The new center cap is two pieces (the hex nut threads into the wheel, holding on the outer ring of the cap). I had the center circle of the hex nut recessed so that it would be possible to insert a factory center sticker (which is actually a plastic medallion on the factory cap). I plan on doing that, but I'm having a hard time finding the factory medallions. I don't want to buy new factory centercaps just to ruin the medallions as I try to take them out.

Does anyone know the name of the manufacturer of the factory 91-92 wheels? The factory wheels have "JW" or "JL" embossed on them. That company, who ever it is, makes factory wheels for GM, Chrysler, and a bunch of other big automakers.....

I think those are for older style wheels, not the 91/92 style.

Those are for the 3rd gens. Did you LOOK? They even show a 16" center cap, with one on it!

Yeah but I think they are more for wheels like this:

YOu may notice that they all have chrome rings on the black caps and if you look at the 91/92 center cap assemblies they don't. I think the black inserts they are selling differ in how they attach.

It just silver printing, like the lettering or the bird in the middle.

They ALL have adhesive backs & stick on.

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"

Dennis-Z28 is correct. The emblems that modern day muscle sells are for the 15 inch rally wheels. That particular emblem is 2 3/16". The medallion on a factory 91-92 centercap for 16 inch wheels is actually 2 9/16". I've talked to my local GM dealer, year-one, classic industries, and a couple other places and they all said that you can't get the medallion seperately, I would have to buy 4 new center caps and pry them off. There in lies the problem. They spidercrack when trying to remove them.

So unless I can magically find a set of factory caps not assembled yet, I may have to have the emblems made somewhere.

If that is correct...It sounds like Boyds might wanna redesign the wheel with a 2 3/16" emblem "hole", not a 2 9/16", since nobody would be able to get an emblem for the center.

Getting full-color decal emblem centers would be super simple to do, but would not have that "glossy bubble" over them. I can talk to my old employer & see what they can do, or know were to get a "glossy bubble" type face on them, if your interested.

They wont be changing the design of the hex nut, but if you have a good alternative to an emblem, especially one with a glossy bubble, I'd definitely be interested.

People will make anything you want provided you make it worth their while or it will make them money.
On another note, you can have as big of a list as you want, when it comes down to it, 99% of them are dreamers. You have the part ready, start talking payment, then people vanish or come up with an airtight alibi of why they can't buy.

You responded to a post that is 3 months old & 4 pages (page 8, #141) of posts ago! Did you bother to look at the DATE of it?

Despite my list of interested parties, the vendors wouldn't even DISCUSS building any crosslace wheels!

I think that's the point that some of us have made already, they cost as much as other Boyd wheels (way overpriced). And to get the wheel most of us would REALLY like to have (aluminum/painted inner spokes like stock), we'd have to pay even more. They cost way too much. Like I said, for the money you can have a super light weight set of Fikse wheels, that in my opinion, look a lot better. Just my $0.02.

I never said they were an exact replica. They are based off of the factory wheel design. But to each his own I guess...

I'm happy with the way they turned out!

ScottyRock - any updates from Boyd on your set?

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"

Did you have to do any work on the inner fender for these to fit? On the fender lip? Is you car factory suspension?
I tried talking with Boyd Coddington Wheels and Foose wheels a couple years ago to get something like this made in the 88-90 IROC rim style. They said it could be done but for about $1500 a pop since they had to mill a "very large piece of aluminum".

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"

I did not modify the fender lip. I have some aftermarket suspension items but I still have the factory springs and my car is still at factory ride height.

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"

No word, no email no returned phone calls. They charged my CC a 50% deposit. I know they are custom, but damn this is crazy bad customer service. Maybe I should rethink my wheel combo. Boyd Jr now works for Weld Racing, maybe thats the problem.

Holy **** someone actaully spent some coin on a thirdgen! very impressive! Im acutally suprised, most of TGO is soo full of talk and BS to see something like this actually make its way out there thats amazing! As for ppl balking at the price, have you bought wheels lately? correction have you bought CUSTOM wheels lately? Thats a damn good price considering you would likely be 1 of 2 cars in the world with that wheel! You gotta pay to be original so quit bitching about price.

Now when do you think they will take it up to an 18"?
