Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"
That's why I had them developed........ to have something different. I could have been selfish and made it to where nobody else could purchase them, but I decided to share them with all of you. THEN, people talked a bunch of crap over the price....
Oh well, I like them and have had a bunch of compliments on them anywhere I take the car.
Looks like me and ScottyRock will be the only ones to have them!
I WAS going to have them made in 18's, but stretching the center pattern out that far didn't look right, so I stayed with 17's.

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"
thanks for doing this and posting it. it looks great and has really helped me decide that i want to do 17 inch wheels with 315's and 255's. that is the perfect size for what i want to do.

Why so "narrow" on the front? I love my 275s & did ZERO ti make them fit, with no rubbing. I just got wheels that fit good. And wishing I had gone with 335s out back instead of 315s. Next time.....

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"
stephen. 275's sound great except that i am planning to go with manual steering with no power assist. 255's will hurt in parking lot turns, but 275's will likely tear my shoulders apart again. i will also be HPDE, drag, road course, and autocross racing the car and it car is more likely to have oversteer than understeer already so i figure 255 will give me plenty of profile without adding the extra friction. also a little easier for hydroplaning on wet tracks/ roads.

I HATE 91-92 style wheel, but i think i fell in love with this design, you did a great job, and i also think they look killer in the photoshop colored versions too, maybe when people open their wallets they will catch on, too bad im poor

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"
It took several months from concept to production to get them done. The programming was already finished and they passed the gov't standard testing etc... I don't see why it took that long to get your set, but then again, I don't know what Boyd has had on his plate over the last several months either...
To Itsarebuild - I ended up going with 245's on the front instead of the 255's as originally planned. The 255's were a hair taller than the 315's. The 245's match height perfectly to the 315's. Hope that helps.
Thanks for compliments, here's another pic, probably the most recent one I have. The car was a little dirty at the time, but here ya go...

I hope to hear something soon. My car is white. When I get my wheels, and fresh paint this spring, we should do a photo shoot, or Photo Shop them together.

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"
I have read most of the posts.
1bad91z, what a fantastic job!!
You took an idea, a design, and made into reality.
Not many can say they created a marketable rim design.
Others will either like them or not, who cares.
The price is appropriate to the limited production rims of this caliber.
Probably on the bit high end of the average 3rd gen nut.
My preference is T/A's, not camaro's.
This style would not look good on a firebird.
If I had a Camaro........, I definately would consider these!

Congratulations. That is a truly classy wheel and your car looks outstanding. It is really refreshing to see something original and tasteful after all these years. My hat is off to you sir. A nice modification without completely changing the nature of the car.

Re: Introducing a new wheel: The Boyd Coddington "1bad91Z"
Thanks for the compliments!
It's also nice to see some Firebird owners who appreciate them!
Most Firebird guys just complain that I didn't build a Firebird wheel, eventhough I own a Camaro....
I haven't really driven the car since last summer (when the last pic I posted was taken).., but when I can find the spare time I will clean up the car for more pics. I still need to send some better pics to Boyd for the website.

I waited 6 months for my ROHs to come over on a boat from Austrailia. Wheels aren't usually quick or cheap when your getting exactly what you want.

These are the wheels. They are Drift Rs. I wanted the 11" wide wheel which is not the normal width so I had to wait for them to come from ROH directly. The guys at Group A wheel took care of it all.

They are pretty awesome, aren't they!
What sizes did you end up going with, or did you just have Boyd duplicate the specs of mine?
I have some more ideas to customize my set a little further, but probably wont be until this summer.... I post pics after the mods..
Also, what tires did you decide on?

Scotty - did you mod your rear inner fender areas yet? Any closer to getting some rubber on those wheels? Also, if you want to have the white inserts painted on, you may want to do that before tires.....

Cool! What brand and size tires did you end up going with?
What all did you mod to get the rears to fit?
I had to cut out the bump stops and do some minor inner fender reshaping (heavy rubber mallet work).. It wasn't that bad and now there is plenty of room even when cornering hard.

Awesome and congrats! I told you they would be worth the wait!
Mine sits about like yours does, but I'm going to wait to lower mine until after the LS swap because I'll need to lower the front a little more due to less weight.

what do you think of the Ronal Firehawks?
