5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

Hey all,

as the Thread title states are the 5th Gen Wheels 5 x 120.65? If so allowing them to fit a 3rd gen car? I was told that although my original wheels were 5 x 120.7 that any 5 x 120 set would fit as well. I looked at the 20" x 8/9" and 18" x 8" sizes from the new 2010...

My next concern is will the offset require spacers or will they go straight on?

I have an 83 Z28 that needs a new set of wheels and tires so this seemed like the place to ask.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

Got some 5th gen wheels measured. The Front are 5 3/4 from flange to outside edge of rear of rim and rear are 6 5/8 However The bolt pattern looks correct 5 on 4 3/4 but the center hole for hub is only 67.1mm I think it might require boring out to fit over the stock hub which is 70mm correct?

huh this would be cool if it can be done with minimal modifications to the rim. would love to have a set of the steel ones for winter tires.

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

Well after further thought, if you put spacers on the rims, which they will require anyway, you eliminate the hub fitting directly into the gap anyway. Basically these will be like fitting some Corvette wheels.

Seems that 2" spacers in the rear will do, and 1.5" spacers on the front. Looks like they will do the work and get these puppies fitting on the car. Someone double check my math on that, but seems it will do the trick, like fitting a 4th gen wheel on basically. May even be able to get away with a 1.25" spacer in the front. I will get exact backspace from mount shortly.

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

Next up is can we get them to fit and work without rub with a car that is 1" lower... Tires at 235/35/20 are very low-pro, but measure up to be only .4" higher then a stock 235/60/R15 combo.

What is the point of "upgrading" the wheels, when the narrow tires would only result in a downgrade?

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

Well as it stands currently I am running 17s with 245 tires, I used to run 235s on 15s with no issues either. I am not doing any serious things with the car other then daily driving, and I want a different look. Besides my 82 Z28 still runs 215s on 15s, and it really has no issues.

That will cause the front tires to rub the battery tray when turning. I've also read that the bolt pattern is different. Don't even think about trying to run the stock tires, they're 29" tall!

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

DBLTKE: That one in the photo looks like one of the optional 22" wheels avaialable to the SS package. Really should be a truck tire lol!

In regards to rubbing, thats why you have to use a lower profile tire. What about a vheicle with stock ride hight? Anyway the 2010 20's with the 235/35/20 tires are only .4" taller at 26.5" diameter vs the stock original 26.1" diameter tire of my 83 Z28.

Anyway there was no intention of ever using a stock 2010 tire/wheel combo, its obviously way too big. The goal of this whole thing is to see if the wheels themselves with spacers and downsized tires will fit at all on a 3rd gen.

I found some second source info on the 2010 Camaro wheels:

Bolt Pattern: 5x120
Offset Range: 35 to 45
Wheel Size Range: 20x8.0 to 22x9.5
OEM Tire Size (Front): 245/45-20 (245x729 mm)
OEM Tire Size (Rear): 275/40-20 (275x728 mm)

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

For the experiment we are talking 20" wheels, 20x8 front, 20x9 rear on a stock hight/axle 3rd gen vehicle.
General Exclaim UHP 225/35/R20s tires for the front and bigger 265/30/R20s for the rear. This keeps the front equal to stock diameter with a little less width, and the rear a grand total of .2" taller with 30mm extra width.

Spacers stand at 1.5" in front, and 2" in rear.

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

You pretty much have it covered but i beat you too it. They are essentially vette offsets. 18s from the 5th gen are the same.

I dont know if i would trust a 235/265 on that low pro for an 8"/9 rim.

Look like 9 posts down. 255/30/20s and 275/30/20s

If I could do it again I would run the 9" rims all around

the 18s that come factory on the 5th gen verts look a lot like IROC rims, i wanted to see what colors the car came as so i went to the create a car thing on GM website, picked the most base convertible and the rims (18s) look a lot like IROC rims lol

the tires on the 5th gen 18'' tire MIGHT be too big, idk what size 18s we can run without rubbing but yes with spacers and if the tire would fit it would work

NONE of the 5th gen tire sizes will work, they are balloons around 28". You need to size the tires approp to our cars. 18s would be like a 245/40/18

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

I really wanted the 2LT 19" wheels. They are similar sizes but would get some more sidewall.. dudes wanted way more then they were worth over the 20s so I just got a set of those cheap.

If you want IROC style wheels you can get those on already cheap without spacers

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

Ok all, someone double check this final list for me but it should be all good. So using Ace's tried tested method we should be looking at the following to use 5th Gen rims:

1.5" Front spacer 5x120 - 5x120
2" Rear Spacer 5-120 - 5x120

Front Tire: 255/30/20s*

Rear Tire: 275/30/20s*

Tire size is variable as long as you maintan a proper upsize ratio.

Where did you grab your wheel spacers from Ace? Also do you know if there is any rub on steering yet?

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

I had a slight problem with the front. I ran a dual hub centric 1.75" spacer on the front that was hubcentric 70.3 to 67.1mm, it didnt clear tho and I had to grind off the hub ring on the spacer to clear it. It woulda worked if it was 2" because it hit the end of the hub, coulda machined the hub to compensate but don't really have ready access to fun stuff like that. You could try a standard 1.5" unit but you might have to space it out depending on how the hub tapers in and if the wheel clears it but you'd probably be good. 1.75" is really close to the outer fender lip but thats what i wanted Ill cut down if needed

I also got them to put in 14mm 1.50 studs like the camaro originally has for the front and associated lug nuts for that on the front spacer

http://www.motorsport-tech.com/

Website seems to be down but they make them 100% custom as needed.

For the rear I didnt have a choice but to run the 12mm nuts as I cant find 14mm studs that will work with the proper knurl. Used ARP studs for a bit of insurance.

For the rear I have a 4th gen 12 bolt which is about 1 7/8" bigger on each side and I run a smaller 1/2" spacers and its a little too much. So 2" would probably be dead on for that.

The tread would be wider and longer. Section width isn't everything.

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

I know this is an old post, but I just bought some 5th gen wheels for my 3rd gen. I also bought 1.5 spacers with 5 x 4.75 lug spacing. Turns out I actually need 1.5 adapters to go from 5 x 4.75 to 5 x 120.65 (120.7mm) lug spacing. Is that what others have found?

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

Back in the 90's, I saw a 2nd gen Camaro with 4th gen rims on it and it looked ***good***. After getting the Holley sniper EFI on my Camaro, I started looking at doing the same thing. But there are too many concerns as to whether or not the bolt patterns, tires, etc fit.

So I am heading over to tire rack. You can set your model year and body type, and it will automatically select tires/rims that fit. There are plenty of 18 inch rims that fit. And you can see how they look on *your* Camaro..

In case anyone needs the info
I fit 5th gen wheels/tires 245/50/18 on a complete stock 3rd gen with 5x4.75 1in spacers on the front and had the slightest rub almost nothing still drivable but may need low profile tires for better clearance
and 5x4.75 1.5 inch spacers on the rear

Thanks for the additional info Mendez007.
Is your 3rd gen lowered? If so, how much?
Do you a link to where you bought the spacers?
Are they spacers/adaptors that correct the stud spacing?

Re: 5th Gen Wheels fit 3rd Gen Bolt Pattern?

So you are saying my C6 Corvette wheels with overlay flags would have fit onto my stock third gen? They were 245/60/18, and I know the bolt pattern would have fit. I was gonna try it and just had spacers put on it, maybe 2 in or 3 in, but I was told repeatedly that they wouldn't have worked even with spacers. Kinda bummed now, I actually liked those wheels and sold them to get the late model 16 in Iroc wheels I have now on my car. I may try to find some more C6 wheels or try the newer Camaro wheels. Does anyone know of someone on here with the C6 Vette wheels on their third-gen Camaro?

5x4.75 and 5x120.65 are the same bolt pattern.
4.75" = 120.65mm

I’m in the process in putting C6 ZR1 replica’s on mine. I’ll let you know as soon as the spacers I ordered come in and I get them on
