give me your opinons on my wheel idea
I don't mind the look of the 15" aluminum wheels on my RS, but I was trying to think if a way to make them look better than the medium BLAH grey they put on them
What do you think of me painting them Body color (charcoal grey metallic) but polish the flat accents a bright bare metal?
Here's a couple of shots of how it looks now, with a rough photoshop of what it might look like...

I did the same thing to the red wheels that were on my 89 so that I could use them as winter wheels on my purple 92, I changed the color to black.

Re: give me your opinons on my wheel idea
those look great! I hadn't thought of caliper paint, that's a good idea. If I can't find it in charcoal gray, I may steal your idea and just paint them black. I can't see why they wouldn't look good with a charcoal gray car

Re: give me your opinons on my wheel idea
true, and I wouldn't have to worry about changing the wheels of I change the body color slightly.
but still, there's something cool about body color wheels. I wonder if I could paint the wheels body color, and then use that caliper paint in clear to protect them? Or wheel paint?

Re: give me your opinons on my wheel idea
picked up an extra wheel today for $25, so now I have 5. I can work on one without disabling the car.
It's not the most pressing project I have, but I can get started anytime on it

Re: give me your opinons on my wheel idea
got another wheel question...
The wheel I picked up today is bare aluminum, no paint at all..
The parts of the auminum I was going to mask off and leave shiny have this textured ribbing on them, like tiny ridges. i can't see if the wheels I have on the car have this same texture because the paint is too thick. I like it, but I need to know if this wheel will match the 4 already on the car.
Do all of this style of wheel have that roughness on the flat parts, or are the painted wheel just smooth?

Re: give me your opinons on my wheel idea
i found an old thread with an interesting side by side...
It makes me seriously think about changing to bare aluminum instead of painting them at all.
At least for now, and I can always strip them now, paint them later. One thing is for sure, whatever I do, they will look better than the medium grey paint that is there now
what do you think would look better with a charcoal grey car?
aluminum
black with aluminum accents
Charcoal grey with aluminum accents
