9 Bolt rear disks on 10bolt

I searched and I couldn't find anything.

How how would it be to put 9 rear disks ( non PBR) on a 3rd or 4th gen drum 10bolt?
My posi is beat and I rather switch to a 10bolt and have cheaper and easier parts to find. Its not like I'm pushing a lot of hp.

Sorry. Could this be moved to the brake forum?

You can find info on modifying the drum axle flanges in the following link (also note changes in speedo gears:

Re: 9 Bolt rear disks on 10bolt

Thanks for the reply, now I have a few more questions.

If Im still using the same brakes (my car already has a 9bolt,prop valve, and parking brake cables) Why would I need to change that stuff?
Also Would it be the same for adding non-pbr and pbr brakes to a ten bolt from a 9 bolt?

Sorry to confuse. I was simply adding info. In retrospect, for the sake of clarity I should have only mentioned the speedo gears. Edited above.

The PBR's would require the 1LE combination valve and parking brakes cables. Ed Miller sells a bolt-on kit for PBR's, which doesn't require axle flange modification. See the link.

Here's the hassle free method of converting to PBR's from drum:

Thank you for the info.

Is there a non hassle non-pbr swap?

That's what the above is. Both the 1LE and LT1 are PBR's.

I think I'm confused. I have a non-pbr 9bolt (1988 i believe) and I want to put the disks on it on to a 10 bolt. I'm sorry if I'm not 100% clear.

Thanks!

I am too--good grief! There is no no-hassle non-PBR conversion that I'm aware of. I've learned that it's too early in the morning to drink beer .

Re: 9 Bolt rear disks on 10bolt

okay, I understand now. I guess I'll just have to look for a 10bolt with disks and sell the 9bolt with its brakes. Thanks for your help!

Re: 9 Bolt rear disks on 10bolt

Killert,

To rectify my confusing posts, here's the long and short of it: The only difference between the 9- and 10-bolt, where the brakes are concerned, is the backing plates. The 9-bolt has a different bolt pattern, so when you modify the 10-bolt drum axle flange, drill it for your 9-bolt plate and you'll be golden as you'll have the correct combination valve, parking brake cables, and with a little luck the correct speedo gears.

Moreover, should you decide to swap to PBR's at some point, the axle flange will be drilled for the 89-92 backing plate, which is different from the early versions. With correct backing plate, alum calipers, 1LE combination valve, the correct parking brake cables, and speedo gears, of course, you'd be good to go that route.

Ed Miller's hassle free conversion allows PBR's to be bolted to the drum rear end without the above axle flange modification. You'd still need the calipers, 1LE combination valve, etc.
