"howling" noise coming from the front...wheel bearing(s)?

This last Sunday, i was driving home from my parents when the car would shutter when I turned the steering wheel to the right, and got progressively worse. I made it home okay, but when I got there, the lug nuts on BOTH front wheels were loose! I would have tightened them when I pulled over on the road before I got home, but I left the lug wrench in my garage... So I tightened them and have been checking them every day and they are fine. A few days ago though, I've been hearing AND feeling a loud humming or howling coming from the front of the car. No shuttering or shaking, just the noise and I can feel it vibrate through the floor of the car. I brought it in to my mechanic and he said that the bearings were loose, but he tightened them back up and they should be fine. I was driving back home, when I got on the freeway and started to hear the noise again! It's either constant until I stop, or it makes the noise here and there. Is it a bad wheel bearing or could it be something else?

Re: "howling" noise coming from the front...wheel bearing(s)?

Im getting the same symtoms and noise but my bearings were replaced about 6 months ago. I recently put another transmission in the car. I thought it might be sometthing to do with that. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance!
