Spare Tire Air Cannister

Ok, my car has the wide collapsible spare tire, but the air canister is missing from the car. I found an air canister out of a wrecked z28, but the label is completely missing from it. Can anyone tell me if replacement labels are available or if you can even refill one of these canisters? I realize I am much better off with a 12v air pump, which I will carry in the car, but was wanting the canister more for originality.

Thanks for the help.

These can be refilled at places that fill fire extinguishers

Re: Spare Tire Air Cannister

You can probably get the label from Classic Industries, they used to have them in the catalog. But here's the thing... The collapsible spares tend to get cracks in the rubber on the folds. The last thing you want is to hit that tire with high pressure and have it blow out. At this point they're really only good for show.

Get yourself a AAA membership and a cell phone. A backup tire isn't a bad idea either. I keep an old 16" tire in the garage. When I take the Firebird on road trips I toss it in a garbage bag and throw it in back. In the event something happens, I can have the car towed to the closest service bay, have them fix the flat or mount up the extra tire and finish my trip.

Re: Spare Tire Air Cannister

Thanks guys for the help. Drew, I had already thought about that and that is exactly what I plan to do. This collapsible spare and air cannister are for show only. The car is pretty much unmolested and so I want to keep that original appearance/equipment look to it. Thanks for the advice!
