Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
We did it ourselves, my Bro in law owns his own body shop.
I'm going to guess if you did it the way I did it, it will cost about $10k. If I got in a wreck, that's about what the receipt would read.
I took everything off, made sure everything was done right.
Door poppers installed with the better springs. (heavy 3rd gen doors)
It was my project and had a lot of fun doing it. Of coarse that's new weather stripping for the entire car including doors, t tops, rear hatch, the door felts inner and outers. I also had sub-frame connectors welded in because I lowered it 2".
It could be cheaper if you just sanded it and painted it, but I went hog wild and took all the ground effects off and all lol! I have over 100 pics of the process if you want to see.
it does give it a nice clean look though that's for sure!

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
i put a set of camaro ss wheels on my 1988 gta an they look great . i am currently using 1.25" all four tires but i think i need to get 1.5" adapters on the front because the center cap is bulging out a little bit. also needd to get pontiac center caps.
ok i got the right adapters and correct center caps but i left 1.25" adapter in the rear and fronts are 1.5" adapters

I do like how the rims look. I saw the black ones on a black car and it turned me off the idea for my car a little. Maybe Corvette Competition Grey or Gunmetal? I'm split on chrome though. I didn't feel I needed to go more than 18'' or to try an 18-19'' setup kind of like the 19-20'' they do on vette's. Idk....to each their own I guess.

The GTA is pretty neat. Not a big fan of the black on black unit.
All the snow here is gone now finally. Probably get some motivation and push it outside for some better side pics.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
Pushed it out today. Almost lost as it rolled it in the street as its a little heavier with all the engine and stuff and it got away from me. The fender and trim parts are not bolted on fyi.
Im a little choked with my at home paint job. The paint color is amazing in the sun but its kinda mismatched in spots. Also my rear fender on the pass side needs some work as I f'd up the body lines and the rear isnt centered up 100% yet so the tires stickin out.
I don't know if I wanna complete this thing now or just part it out...

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
iv been looking all day for a set of replica c5 deep dish 18"s or c6 z06 18"s so i can just swap my tires and sell my current wheels.
after stumbling on this thread iv been researching the 5th gen wheels and im dead set on them for my camaro.
Found a set with tires for 600 (needs new rear tires)
What size tires fit bit for this setup and does the fronts rub?
Im using a 2" adapter up front and a 4th gen rear, any help would be awsome.
And to that one guy who keeps bashing any wheels bigger than 18"s and freaking out with unnessecary comments (thought you have a nice car) you need to realize everyone is different and has their own opionions and likes/dislikes so just STOP...you sound like a racist red neck jerkoff. I like 19"s and up on these cars as much as i like most mustangs or ricers.......BUT not being an ignorant jerkoff I CAN appreciate a good set of 20"s a set that looks amazing and flows well...as well as a well built 00 cobra or a 500 whp hatchback civic or a fully built turbo 280zx smoking big blocks on the 1/4 and driving home on pump gas think outside the box.

yes, my TA is stock height and there some rubbing on the right side due to piece of inner splash shield sticking out a little. only thing i kinda hate is that it raised my car just a little. lol next project is installing 2010 camaro brakes

So i take it tires have to be changed to get them to fit? also my cars dropped 2" do you guys think these wheels will fit or am I going to have to go back to stock height? ACE how low did you drop it and still have them tuck well and not rub when you had them on your car?

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
got mine on today used longer arp studs and a .25 spacer on 4th gen rear and 2" spacers for the front...gotta adjust my panhard bar because its 7/16th to wide on the driver side rear and they rub in the front(havnt put the fenders on to see how bad they hit the fenders BUT im still using stock 275/40/20 tires in the rear and 245/45/20 tires in the front.
Rear wheels need hugs bored out or the spacer i got needs to be a bit bigger I went with a .25 spacer kinda figuring it would fit perfect after reading about ace using the .5's....
well the .25's arnt big enough to let the wheel clear the bore of the hub, by only .25 of an inch,so .5's are the best bet.
my car has dropzone 2" dropsprings and u cant barely fit a pinky in between fender and tire in the rear, hope the new tires will give it a little leeway

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
Snagged a set off craigslist for $400 after seeing this thread. I think i'm going to go with the 30 series tires, I have a 2" tokico lowering kit so we'll see how well they work. Already have 4th gen rear end and 2" spacers up front. Will probably drop down to 1.5 spacers as thats what it seems is working best for people. Should look sharp on my black Z/28, and show off my Z51 Corvette brakes well
. I got the lug nuts with the set of wheels but IIRC the 2010 is 14mm studs and our cars are 12mm studs correct? what has everyone been using for lug nuts and I take it the slight difference in the bolt pattern didn't matter? I didn't see this mentioned anywhere in the thread.

live wire did you ever get your wheels on?? get them on with no spacers in the rear? I tried 5/32 or 3/16 and their to small, going with 1/4 now hoping itll allow the wheel to clear the hub

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
IMO the rim style looks absolutely amazing on a 3rd gen. My only complaint is they need to make them in 18's because 20's are just overkill and look too big.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
Thanks to everyone for the pics, conversation, and details. Just put mine on. Ended up using 245 35 20s on the front, and 255 35 20s on the back. With 1.5" spacers. The hubs bent the caps in the front - so may need another .25" at some point.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
I don't normally like 20" wheels and would never consider looking for some, but... the pics in this thread have convinced me. It doesn't look like a ghetto cruiser. I actually love the look. Was going to get some 17" vette rims but I like this look a whole lot better. The 5th gen rims look like they fit the 3rd gen better than they do 5th gens...

By the way the silver Camaro looks AMAZING. I've wished my car was silver for a while now.

ACE I sure as shooting plan on getting me a set as well, but I am looking at the SLP version that is black and chrome.... here is the site http://www.slponline.com/view_product_site.asp?P=81055 but yeah. So can you give me a listing of what you did for the rear end and suspension so that they fit... thanks. Plus you lowered your car, what would they be like without being lowered, is that the ride height you mention... Last edited by bartstalder; Aug 11, 2011 at 11:35 PM.
