swapping 4th gen wheels on 3rd gen

Hi, I recently purchased some 96 camaro wheels that are 16x8, and I went to a wheel shop to get some spacers and they said that I needed 1.25 spacers and I installed the wheels, and they fit good on the rear but they rub on my tie rod ends in the front . It seems like that I only need about a quarter inch to get the clearance that I need. I also have seen where everyone says 2" spacers are needed. Can someone please give me some input I dont wanna buy 4 new spacers. thanks for any help

it depends on the specs of your wheels, sometimes people use 1.5" spacers, other 2.25. If the wheels are 16x8, you want to end up with around zero offset, or 4.5" of backspace after installing the spacer. So measure from the mounting surface to the inside edge of the wheel, subtract that number from 4.5, and thats the size spacer you want. You may have to round that number, it will probably be fractional.

Hi,I have 16x8s on my 85z,and I have 2'' spacers all round. On rare occasions they will rub slightly, but only on a very tight turn,ie on full lock. The wheels are off a 93 firebird.
