18x8 with 4.5bs and 4.75 bolt circle works great, with or without a brake upgrade in the front. Thats what i used for years.
dont want to go a little wider on the rear?

4.5 backspace is what stock is on 16x8 correct? a custom set order with 4.5 specs should clear ls1 brakes id assume?

The backspacing doesn't determine whether or not the wheel will clear your brake caliper. You shouldn't have any clearance issues with ls1 brakes and 18" wheels. With the ls1 brakes, I would go with 4.75" backspacing. I used 4.75" backspacing for my custom 18x8" wheels (c5 brakes), and 6.25" backspacing for the rear 18x10.5" wheels.

yes
both will work fine. not all places make wheels with .25" bs sizes however, so it matters where you get them and what the are
i assume you have a 3rd gen rear, not a 4th gen
