Will a 17x10.5" wheel fit?
Hi everyone...been looking hard at the American Racing Torque Thrust "M" wheels in either the black or anthacite. I'd like to put the widest meats I can on the rear, and after researching it seems a 17x10" wheel will fit without mods and a 5.5" backspace.
But unfortunately, the closest I can get with these particular wheels is a 17"x10.5" wide wheel with a 44mm "offset"....or else I need to drop down to 9" width...
I'd like to run a 285/17" tires on th rear, which I know the 10.5" wide wheels will accomidate - but I'm concerned about that extra 1/2" of width. Will I need to cut out bumpstops and hammer, or do you think I could get a spacer that'll tuck everthing in without any mods to the wheel well??
-Or- this style rim goes straight down from 10.5" wide to 9" wide...am I better off just going down to a 9" width and running 275 tires?? At wheelsforless, I can get them with Nexen N3000 tires monted and balanced pretty reasonably....
Thanks in advance for any opinions on this....

2" spacers ought to do it but they are going to stick out a bit.

Not cheap but not Chinese sh_it either. Don't skimp on something that's going to make your life overly exciting if it fails.

Re: Will a 17x10.5" wheel fit?
That's what I was afraid I'd hear....so if I got, say...a 1 3/4" spacer I would probably hit the bump stop or somethng else??
I def. don't want the tires sticking out...tends to cut the sidewalls. lol
All this is sooo confusing....I read posts where the 285/40/17's fit perfect, and some say it will stick out. I realize rim width and backspace are critical to tuck this size tire into the rear wheel well, so - if I reverse the question...what size 17" rim and backspace would I need to fit these tires in the rear with no hammering and tucking under the outer fender??
As I said in my initial post, I could always play it safe and go with the skinnier 9" wide wheels, but from what I understand that'll restrict me to a 275/40/17" tire max....
It's kinda sad...I really like the Torque Thrust M wheels, but I may need to choose something else to get the rubber I need on back. I REALLY need traction.

Just say NO to spacers. And buy wheels that fit, or mod the inner wheel wells to accommodate your wheels of choice.
If you just MUST get a wheel that doesn't fit & needs a spacer to fit, just get you a LS1 rear end. You'll no longer need the spacers AND you'll get bigger disc brakes AND a better posi unit. LS1 rear ends are a win-win mod, as long as the wheels don't end up out past the fenders.

-But I here ya Stephen, I'd much rather use 20 lug nuts than 40...as much as I like those wheels, it seems like I'll need to keep looking around. I'm kinda "old school" (and gettin kinda old lol) and like the 5 spoke wheels - but it's hard to find any of that style that have the right backspace or offset to fit Thirdgen's. And just IMO, Vette (and TT2's) wheels are overplayed...not sayin there not nice cause they are...but A LOT of people have them. And they use spacers with most all of those too...
I'm really only looking at 17" wheels because there's not much selection in the 15" size tires like thier used to be.

[QUOTE=Confuzed1;4787406]Are the LS1 rears stronger than the Moser 9" I currently have? [QUOTE]
Oh definetely. 10 times stronger. 10bolt > 9".....NOT! :roflmao: I missed that you already had a *ord part. (or was i choosing to ignore that? :lol )

If you want grip, buy a better tire.
285/40/17 is too tall. Stick with the 275/40/17
you can roll your fenders for more space.
stay away from big spacers.
buy my 17x9.5 Firehawks.

Someone on the forum got 18x11 iroc's to fit in the rear with some slight modifications. Mr. IROC-Z. I would imagine 17x10.5 wont be too bad.

I run 285/40/17's front and rear. and yes I do realize that they're nearly half and inch taller than stock.

bump for some info. I need to know what spacer size on the torque thrust m 17x10.5 with the 44mm offset to just barely fit inside the fender well... Not flush with it.

Re: Will a 17x10.5" wheel fit?
you can put the 285/40/17 on the 9.5in rim wide without an issue. i run 285/40/18 on a 9in wide rim

Re: Will a 17x10.5" wheel fit?
OK, So here is the skinny! our standard rear wheel is a 16x18 with a 16mm offset. if you go to a 10" wheel with the same 16mm offset you are going 1" to fender and 1" to suspension, you will hence clear all parts with no rubbing and not look old English meaning the tire will line up with fender but not stick out.
the only thing you will have to do is have your fender under lip rolled in.

Re: Will a 17x10.5" wheel fit?
I'm going to be selling my 17x10.5 anthracite FR500 rims on my rear, they are a for bolt pattern but all u need is 1.5" adapters and your fine with no real mods. I cut my rear bump stops for added security but prob not needed. My fronts will be for sale as well at 17x9 with a 1.25" adapter. They have only 500 miles on them with new sumimoto summer tires. The rears are 315/35-17 and fronts are 275/35-17 and I have no rubbing. I'm stepping up to 20s and my new wheels/tires will be here tmrw.

Re: Will a 17x10.5" wheel fit?
These are the rims and tires. They are anthracite which is a dark gay. Rear is deep-dish style with polished and cleared rim. The front in this pic is with a 1.5" adapter and it now has 1.25" USA custom made adapters and they are not cheap, so the wheels are tucked in 1/4" more now.
