front runners or not???

i"m going for a street strip theme, on my 84 Z. about to order some 15x10's for the rear but unsure what i should do for the fronts.

my choices are 15x7's 4"bs or front runner style with 15x4 1 3/4 bs

whats your suggestions? or suggestions?

my only concerns are tire prices for one, stock size i feel will be cheaper, but i think i kinda like the look of drag setup but concerned of how the car will drive (anyone with experience?)

thanks

Re: front runners or not???

What rear backspacing did you end up going with for the 15x10 ? Depending on your driving habits will depend on what front rim and tire you want. If you go with the 15x4 say bye bye to corner carving and braking.

Re: front runners or not???

i went with a 5.5 BS i don't want a mini tub right now.

i was going to go with the factory size on the front but they don't offer them in that size...

not even sure if the 4" are the right back spacing

heres what i have to work with 4" 1.74 bs, 7" 4"bs, 8" with either a 4.5 or 5.5 bs

Re: front runners or not???

I had 15x4 wheels up front with a radial tire and it drove GREAT. Kumho Powerstar tires 180/70/15 I think it was.
Relatively cheap at 80 a piece and work well. i've been 130 mph on them. I would not run a bias ply up front.

My other friend runs bridgestone 185/60/15's i think on his street car. The drag wheels with skinnies up front look amazing.

I have 17x4 GTO spares up front now with a bias ply..its alittle soft on the front end and you can feel that when driving.

Re: front runners or not???

Just curious. How much of a gain do you see in your ET with skinnies generally speeking?

Re: front runners or not???

Well the entire 15x8's with 26" ET streets + 15x4 skinnies with those tires above were just over 70lbs of weight savings over 16x8 IROCZ wheels all around with 245 radials with the rear tires with 26" ET streets.

With that I think I saw about a tenth in ET on a low 13 second car. Its about right with the rule of 100 lbs = 1 tenth.

I have 15x4 with 1.75 backspacing in the front with Mickey Thompson Sportsman 26 x 7.5-15. Work like a charm.

Re: front runners or not???

so would it be safe to say stay under or around a 28" tire for the rears to minimize hammering on the inners?

Re: front runners or not???

The backspacing and tire width matter more then the dia.
With the 5.5 backspacing you have its should stick out even or close with the outer fender so i dont think your going to have to hammer or massage anything. if you have stock suspension.

Yeah.....I've tried the front skinnies route before & in hard braking, the car would keep going STRAIGHT, despite the wheels being turned!

No more skinnies for me. I'm not looking for every little tenth & compromising to get it.

Re: front runners or not???

I've been able to lock up the skinnies under hard braking before. Kinda scary. I did that trying to slow down from 140 and hit the 2nd to last turn-off lane at the track and had all four wheels skidding abit but it was controlled. Definately doesnt feel like street tires and normal wheels.
