i think this is the center cap on my camaro but its all metal and looks like it is part of the brake rotor how do you guys get rid of this to put on a flush wheel ??
i want to put a rim on that is flush and doesn't have the center piece sticking out i tried search for it but i don't no exactly what it is called and what i am looking for any help is much appreciated
Thats the rotor/hub assembly. In short, its not even a center cap.
yeah, thats part of the hub, it housing the bearings, you cant remove it.
that being said, most every good aftermarket aluminum wheels have quite thick centers and that part ofhte hub is covered by the wheel. Evenm steel wheels generally have center caps that will cover that
so your saying don't worrie about that hub ? because im looking on getting rims like these leaning towards the black with the chrome lip ones i just want to make sure they wont get in the way of anything or i wont have bulge sticking out of the center of the rim
the back spacing of the one set of rims is +45mm that is pretty close to what stock is correct so i wont have wheels sticking out past my fenders ? i know there's alot of threads on back spacing and everything ill look more into it just figured id ask also

The issue.is the size .and.length of that piece. It may be too big at the base to fit the wheel, or it may be fine. Its hard since most the aftermarket wheels are made for .modern car that have different hub styles.
Without the width of that wheel, +45mm offset is almost meaningless. However, its going to be much more than you need and you will need spacers to fit those wheels as 3rd gens typicaly have offsets closer to zero. The needed spacers will be Something aroumd.1.5 to 2 inches thick depending on a few variables.
I can't tell you if those wheels centercaps will work or not. They may, but sometimes they don't.
As stated by before, it's not part of your wheel. It is the dust cap for your wheel bearings, which are installed in the brake rotor, the only time you need worry about it is when it comes time to replace your rotors or wheel bearings. You can pry it off with a flat blade screwdriver after removing your wheel (and brake caliper, if replacing rotor). If your brake rotors and wheel bearings are in good shape, no need to worry about the dust cap.
Not to sound mean but if you didnt know what thats was and you were confusing it with the center cap maybe just maybe you shouldnt purchase wheels just yet. Sounds like you should do a lot of research.

I'm wondering if you're saying it's okay to drive the car w/o the dust cap? If so, that's not true. Unless you enjoy replacing bearings, rotors and/or spindles.
no im not confusing it with the dust cap i just dont no what its called and i saw other 3rd gens with out those center caps sticking out. so since its part of the rotor how do i hide it because i dont want it to be shown like some people are running the z06 wheels on there cars and dont have that in the center of rims
You can do it, but you would need to run a good sized spacer to do it. There was a guy with an 83 running 17s that looked like they were from a 25th Trans Am. He was using a good thick spacer bolted to the hub that covered it, and he bolted the wheels to that spacer. If I can find the pics I will put them up.

I don't think you are sounding mean at all. As for the dust cap, it's there for a reason, to keep your wheel bearings from turning to **** from dirt and grime. GM didn't put it there so they could screw with you 25 years down the road.

In no way did I mean that it was OK. All I was saying is that when it comes time to replace brake rotors or install new wheel bearings, the dust cap has to come off to access the castle nut.
Ok, old thread, but related question. I have a 92 Camaro that is missing the entire center piece from two of the wheels. How concerned should I be? I can find replacements for the rounded cap, but not the entire center piece that the rounded cap fits on. Appreciate any advice.
