255s in back 245s in front

Anyone done this? 255x50 in the back and 245x50 in the front? Can you do this (on stock IROC rims or not)? Pictures of how cars sit like this?

the 255 tires are the corvette tires, they mount fine on the stock rims.... they look slightly thicker... i didnt notice any traction gain.

My GTA has the 16X8's. 245-50-16 Cooper Zeons up front and 255-50-16 BFG G-Force out back. Handles great.

Re: 255s in back 245s in front

I have 255/50/16's out back, and 245/50/16's up front. Works great. Handling is awesome. I always surprised how much tire pressures aren't mentioned when talking about tire and wheel issues. Finding the right tire pressures that work for you are very important issues that can make or break a good set-up. I have an 87 Trans Am with the WS6 handling package and run my rears a little lower pressure. Hooks up really well and handles like its on rails.

I have 15x8" wheels with 235's all the way around. If I turn almost until lock they hit, I pulled the plastic up a little closer, but want to buy a set of clips from autozone or something to fix it.

What aspect ratio are you running? If you're running a 50 series tire you shouldn't have issues. Third gens don't like tall tires up front. Like I said I'm running 245/50/16 with no problems up front.

Re: 255s in back 245s in front

I'm running 295/50R15's in back and 235/50R15's in front. Looks great and handles great too. Only issues I have is my fronts plow a small bit when making sharp turns but is really only noticeable because I know its doing it. And the tire width in the back is just wide enough to be just inside the tandem width of transport tires so when I am driving down a highway with transport tire ruts I have to drive outside the ruts ie. with my drivers sides on the yellow line/white dotted line or right tires on the white solid line, or just plain stay out on passing lane side but since I really only drive at 90km/h - 55mp/h its a lil selfish to stick my car out in the passing lane. Not to mention if I opened my car up more I would be loud as heck(already am a bit loud) and it would be annoying for cars passing by hahah. running edelbrock shortie headers true dual exhaust with no Y /H pipe straight tubes to super 44 flowmaster mufflers sounds like a beast!

Re: 255s in back 245s in front

Somebody Help!
I got the 255/50/16 setup on the back, and i cant get the power down to save my life. Im running on high performance street radials, and if i open it up im spinning rubber at launch and even if i drop it on the highway. Im not running with a posi, but i figure theres gotta be a setup thats not trying to kill me. maybe tire pressure?
Suggestions?

Re: 255s in back 245s in front

I have a posi in my car with 255 drag radials and the car still breaks loose like crazy. Lowering the tire pressure down to 15 psi helped my car on the strip but I cant tell the difference on the street. I think a posi would help a lot.

Re: 255s in back 245s in front

I have 235/55/15x8 btw, tall tires, but only an inch bigger in diameter than my old ones. I also got kyb shocks all the way around. I'm thinking about getting done 1 inch drop springs to make it look better.
