89 IROC rims?

I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track here, but just wanted to verify that the rims I that I am in the process of refinishing are off a 89 IROC? I'm looking into tires and just wanted to verify that I am looking for the right size. From what I read in my searches I can go with 245/50R16 all the way around or do 245/50R16 up front and 255/50R16 in the back. I shouldn't have any issues putting these on a 90 RS right?

Any suggestion on if I should go the same all around or staggered?

88-90. These did come in 15's as well as 16's, so verify the size. They will fit your RS.

Re: 89 IROC rims?

I verified they are 16" rims. Still not sure if I should go with the 255s on the back or just do 245s all the way around?

Anybody running the staggered setup?

Re: 89 IROC rims?

The selection for 255/50/16's had dwindled to almost nothing. You can still find some decent tires in that size, but they're all old stock, not much is actually made new in that size anymore.

Edit:

It appears BFG has their new G-Force Sport Comp 2's in that size... that's pretty much your only option unless you want to run non DOT slicks/race tires.

Re: 89 IROC rims?

I've got the same wheels and am about to get a set of Kumho KU31 245/50/16 tyres.

I thought about getting 255/50/16 on the back, but figure they will be a fraction taller and get more side wall flex.

Re: 89 IROC rims?

still waiting on my 255/50/16 drag radials. i believe 245 is the stock size. almost every car will give you the stock tire size if you open the drivers door and read the sticker, if its still there.

Re: 89 IROC rims?

245/50/16 is the stock size, just wondering how many people run the 255s on the back

Re: 89 IROC rims?

+1 interested in running stock 16 * 8 IROC rims with 245/50 front and 255/50 or 265/45 rear.

Would like a wider tyre in the rear to fill out the guard, but worried that handling will suffer due to additional side wall flex.

Re: 89 IROC rims?

Just ordered a set of 245/50/15s for the front and 255/50/15s for the back. Went with the BFGoodrich Sport Comp2s. The tires should be here next week. Still have 20-30 hours of work left on the rims before I can get them mounted. I will update with pics once I get them on the car!

Re: 89 IROC rims?

Got the tires mounted this week and finally put them on last night! I love it! Glad I went with the 255s on the back. The rim and tire combo just fill out the wheel wells so much better!

You could add more air if you felt it was needed to stiffen the side wall.

Re: 89 IROC rims?

One more thing to consider if you want that wider look in the rear. All the 16" IROC and TA PW7 have a front and a rear wheel The offset for the fronts are 16mm deeper. Now on the IROC wheels you don't notice the offset differance near as much as you do on the TA PW7's since the IROC's do not have a lip/dish to them. What I did on my TA was get a set of 1/4" spacer for the front and moved the fronts to the rear and the rears to the front and it's looks much better and has a wider stace out back. I'm running 245/50/16's all around. If you put the front's on the rear and went with the 255's out back the stance would be sweet.
