C5 Wagon Wheels on a Third Gen

this post is more of a reference for people thinking about swapping c5 wagon wheels on their third gen, as i could only find a couple pictures of what they looked like and i had to dig to find them.

springs are stock low mile iroc springs, fronts cut to lower it ~1" or so, rears untouched.

front has 2" wheel spacers from titan wheel accessories, very nice product at a great price btw (also have a pair of their ford to chevy adapters for my v8 datsun, i highly recommend them)

rear end is out of a 2000 camaro SS with LT1 brakes and axles

tires are 255 on the front and 295 on the rear

had to massage the body seam inside the rear wheel well, and remove the bump stops and grind down the bump stop mounts a tiny little bit. i will probably throw the bumpstops back on as it was just the mount that was rubbing

as a reminder these are 17" front and 18" rear. enjoy.

Re: C5 Wagon Wheels on a Third Gen

I dont really know why, but these wheels seem to fit better on camaros without ground fx and Formula-style firebirds and the like. The 82-84 Z's ground fx dont come down as far as the newer ones do, so it looks good on that car too. Seems like the more ground fx, the worse these wheels look. They can look REALLY bad, but all of these cars look great in them.

Re: C5 Wagon Wheels on a Third Gen

I just picked up a set of wagon wheels, but I am kinda intimidated by the modding required to make them fit. Can any give me an idea on what i have to do to the bump stops, bump stop mounts, and wheel wells? thanks

Re: C5 Wagon Wheels on a Third Gen

I had a set of chrome 18s
Front 265
Rear 295
On my 00 camaro. Fit perfect without any mods.
I would like to use em on my rs.
Im gonna be converting to ls1 caliper in the front.
Rear, im using a moser 12bolt also with ls1 calipers.
I know the rear is tbd. But what is the easiest way to fitting them in the front?
Im not really concerned with the tire width in front, the one i need so there is no rubbing or interference on complete turns.
Rear im just gonna have to figure out when i install it.

Third gens with stock width rearends need 2" spacers on all 4 corners.
Put a 4th gen rear in your car the next time it blows up and you won't need any spacers back there. You will need to put in the ARP longer wheel studs with the spacers too. Other than that, you will have no issues at all.

I use the 13" Baer 2-piston C4HD and have room to spare everywhere. I use LS1 12" stock 4th gen brakes on a 4th gen rear, again with lots of room. Hoosier race 275/35s all around with no rubbing (although some Camaros fit tighter than some 'birds.

Nope, It wasn't lowered in that photo but it is now :P

There are no mods, just spacers. No need to be intimidated, someone with ZERO knowledge about cars or mechanics can EASILY do this.

BTW. The stock center caps with lug covers are HIDEOUS! Take a look at mine trimmed off the lug covers and cleaned up the edges. 100% better than original.

Love the center cover mod.

Here is my 83... Currently lowered on an Eibach Pro Kit... No issues so far with 2" spacers all around.

Man that's awesome, I love that. It just so happens my 91 camaro is also red. I'll be ordering my 2inch adapters ASAP! Very inspired by the way that looks. And thanks for the help!

Re: C5 Wagon Wheels on a Third Gen

Thats odd, because they only started making them in 1997.

If you get your adapters pay close attention to the front of my car. It would look much nicer with a 2.25 or 2.5 inch adapter in the front, or a 1.75" instead in the rear with a 2.0" in the front. This will bring the wheels more parallel to each other.

Re: C5 Wagon Wheels on a Third Gen

Stock C5 tires.....

Goodyear eagle F1 GS EMT

They are almost 400$ a piece, and if you bought all four they are the worst 1600$ someone could ever spend. EMT or "run flats" are the worst tires period.

I retract this statement. Every car in this thread looks fantastic. Im almost sold on buying a pair. What size tires do you guys run? 245/45/17s and 275/35/18s seem to match well, but I hate to go with stock width on the front. 255/40/17s are .4 taller than 275/35/18s and 275/40/18s seem like they're just too much taller than stock, enough to be noticable. I'd feel better if I knew what you guys ran, because clearly it looks right... I always planned to stay with 17's, but as good as these look and as cheap as you can sometimes find them....

When I ran these wheels and used the same size tires and 2" spacers. I had plenty of room in the front. I since bought a different set so I could run wider fronts, even with a 275 tire on a 9.5" rim a 2" spacer still works adequately.

Re: C5 Wagon Wheels on a Third Gen

Here's mine.

Ignore the "gaps"; the ground it's sitting on is uneven. Sits about level on level ground.

These are w 2" spacers all the way around.

Did you have to use extended studs or are the stock ones ok?

And where did you get your spacers? I'm thinking about ordering them from titan wheel accessories
