Re: Question about Fitment for Iroc replica Rims

A PE1 wheel is the iconic 86-87 IROC wheel. Not sure is 85 had it. But you can further investigate on www.IROC-Z.com .

They had it in 85. The 16 inch wheels were part of the IROC package in 85.

To distinguish a 1986 IROC-Z on the street, they had a third brake light on the rear hatch at the top. They had the PE1 Aluminum Wheels. The double stripe just above the ground effects had the black stripe on the bottom. The IROC-Z door emblems were towards the front of the door under the sideview mirror.

No convertible was available in 1986

Leather was not an available fabric in 1986

The 5.7 Liter 350ci engine was still not available in 1986

All 305 TPI LB9 motors (1985-1992) came with one of two basic cams. An easy way to identify the type of cam on an LB9 car is to look at the tach: the lesser cams have a yellow line at 4500 and red line at 5000; the hotter cams have a yellow line at 5000 and red line at 5500.

For reference, a 5" backspacing is the most you can run in the front, along with a 17" wheel (or a 18" that contacts the tie rod end). For the most part, aftermarket IROCs are 8" wide and have the same offset all around - which pulls the rear wheels out to the same points in the wells and helps handling by increasing the track width.

Ok. Now I see. So in other words, I can get 16" IROC replicas and install them and everything will be fine, other than the read wheels sticking out slightly more than the front wheels right?

Emphasis on slightly. Every car with aftermarket IROC wheels will 95 percent likely have the same offset front to rear - can you tell the rears stick out? I sure cant.

More like....The rear wheels will set out more flush, not out past them, with the quarter panels than sitting so far in. IIRC it brings them out in-line with the fronts & not out further. The factory sets rear wheels in narrower than the fronts for "better" tracking to help bring the rear of a vehicle in line with the front with no driver input on the steering wheel. I've had the fronts & rears matching & never noticed any difference in the way the rear of my car tracked, but I also wasn't a big corporation making thousands of cars & subject to lawsuits by customers.

I have 0 offsets on mine. I'm running 245/50's all the way around. They are inside the fenderlip 100%. Nothing sticks out. AND, I can rotate them. That's a big plus when you have a daily driver.

I'll only have them that way for another week. That's when the 17's arrive.

I'm going to sell them after I make sure the vette ones work out. They are the ones pictured on the car right now. No scratches or curb rash. I take it you might be interested?

Where are you? I'm in Texas, near Waco.

WAY down south. Remember the 2010 7.2 Easter Earthquake in Baja California? Right there, In the Imperial Valley. As for the probation, well its a long story. Let me put it like this,,,, I ask the Big Man a question, he repllies quick. I ask him another question, and BOOM!!! He answers quick. But when I ask him if he can remove me since Ive been on good behavior for several months already,,, I get no reply. Ive asked around 5 times if i can get my probation removed and he wont answer me. I think he is just waiting for me to mess up so that he can have a good reason to ban me.

I know the front and rear have different backspacing on my IROC, but theirs are the same for both.
Do they look right when mounted? Just curious i don't much about rims in general.
Thanks in advance

OK.. I have read all about the rims.. But what size tire are you going to run?
I ask because I like those rims as well.
Thanks.
