What size wheels\tires do you guys think are in this picture?

The rears, any guesses as to the wheel size and\or the tire size?

Would the wheel width matter for those rear tires?

Re: What size wheels\tires do you guys think are in this picture?

well yeah, for the rear tire size (if I'm right) the rim would have to be between 8 and 10.5 inches

for the front, between 6.5 and 8.5

Yes that's my ride.85mark is right. The 295's were fun for awhile but my BS was way off for that tire.I'm running 255/60's rear now.Its been said that 5.5 BS would tuck them in just enough that the bulge would be flush with the wheel well flair.Wheels are 7" front and 8" rear.

Hey! You have great taste in wheels/tires! Heh, I'm buying a set of those ar-23's this month, and really need help as I've never gone beyond stock on a wheel\tire before.

I'm happy with stock front tire size, but for the rears I want EXACTLY the look you have for your rears in the OP pic. Those are JUST the right size for what I want.

Is backspace an aspect of the wheel itself? You said yours was off. What will I have to do to run 15x8s with 295s without issue?

What would the "extremeness" of those wheels result in? What are the negative side effects you think would come from running them?

Re: What size wheels\tires do you guys think are in this picture?

if the back side of the car bounces down hard enough, I could see the wheel wells shredding the tires, or the tires ruining the car

I'm sure there are other issues too

Re: What size wheels\tires do you guys think are in this picture?

The AR-23 in 15" only come with a back spacing of 3.75 so there is no way to get them to tuck inside. "In a short reply" back spacing is how deep the wheel moves the tire in or out of the well.Larger the # the farther the tire will be moved in.
The tires were something my friend had and I mounted them to see what they would look like. There's a few things I did in the beginning with my "first" build because I was not educated in the subject. BS was one of them, and playing around with 295's was another.Joining this site and hard work on it is how I am learning.
Just so the people reading this know,my car started out as a $500.00 wreck that I pulled out of some guys back yard.

Re: What size wheels\tires do you guys think are in this picture?

Okay, so, you can have as much backspace as you want, bringing the entire tire and wheel farther and farther INTO the wheel well (bringing the 2 tires on the same axle closer together) up until you have problems with the tire\wheel running into the wheel well or suspension parts. Right?

So, I take it that my options are to either find a wheel with a 5.5 BS if I want 295/50's, or go with 255/60's if I want to stick with the ar-23's?

Absolutely!

Too wide of a tire for a particular wheel makes the tire cup out over the lip too much. This causes sidewall instability and worsens handling.

If that tire in the picture is in fact a 295 measured width, it would really need a 10" wide wheel, not the 7" or 8" it looks to have.

Re: What size wheels\tires do you guys think are in this picture?

Paul is absolutely right...you need the right width wheel for the tire you want to run for reasons he mentioned.

If you go to "Tirerack.com" -pick the size tire you're interested in, and click on "Specs"....it'll tell you the recommended rim width.

I just punched in P295/50R-15 and it recommends a 8"-10.5" wide wheel for that with of tire. I would shoot for the midrange of that...about a 9 to 9.5" wheel. It also tells you what the tread width of the tire is...all kinds of good info. You're really limited on tire choices and sizes with 15" wheels nowadays...

Re: What size wheels\tires do you guys think are in this picture?

This is not exactly a reply concerning the OP'S question but since my car is part of the subject I would like to add a side note......I actually found exactly what I want on my car and IMO they fit perfectly, they are the first wheels I bought. Ive decided that for me and a street only DD the 7" AR-23's with 235/60r15 front and 8" 255/60r15 rear combination is just right .The rear tire bulge is flush with the flare and tread tucked slightly inside of the well.=
Hers a link to the wheels and tires if you want to see them.
