New Rims on the way... a fast question
I ordered a set of 18x8 Chrome Iroc replicas from Custom Wheel Market. Here they are pictured below

I actually prefer the look of these to the American racing ones. Not a fan of their center cap. Anyhow I like these rims... but would like to add these center caps to my new rims. Will these fit my new rims?

Thanks for the help.

Ask the manufacturer how big the diameter of the emblem are is & we can compare that to the stock emblem diameter.

Re: New Rims on the way... a fast question
Was looking around and stumbled on to this photo, that pretty much looks like what I want to do. Can't wait to get the new rims (:

The only difference for me is I'd be using black and silver instead of the red and black.

ah damn it....CWM just called and said they refunded my money because the 18's are on back order and won't be available for at least another 4 weeks. So for now I guess things are on hold. The guy from CWM was really nice and apologetic and put me on a list so he can notify me when they have more of them. Great customer service in spite of the fact the rims are on back order.

Direct fit wheels or are those gonna need adapters (like 4th gen wheels) to fit?

Re: New Rims on the way... a fast question
They are a direct fit for my 84 Camaro, at least that's how I understand it so far. The Irocs are said to be a perfect fit. The rim pictured above is not the ones I got, just used the picture because it has the nitto's I ordered 255/45ZR18 NT555.
These rims pictured below are the one I got ordered.

Alot of chrome.. like a buddy of mine say's "Chrome won't get you home....but you'll look good broke down on the side of the highway" lol Going to be nice to have the new third gen bling
And here is another pic of the Nitto's(ignore the rims)

BTW, 255-45-18 are about 1" larger in diameter than what came on the car stock (245-50-16 or 215-65-15)...

URGENT: Will 255/45ZR18 rub in the front?
Really getting worried about the 255/45ZR18 rubbing in the front. Maybe I can get them to change out for the 245/40ZR18. Do you think they will fit? Is anyone out there running 255/45r18's on the front...and do they rub? I need to know because if I am going to change up my order I need to do it tonight. Thanks in advance...
ps. my car is not lowered.

Re: URGENT: Will 255/45ZR18 rub in the front?
I was able to get the fronts changed to 245/40ZR18. The rears are still going to be 255/45ZR18. Thankfully the tires hadn't been mounted yet, so it was just a matter of telling them which ones I wanted. Should be good now, thanks guys for the help.

Re: New Rims on the way... a fast question
Why so skinny? You go with a larger diameter wheel yet no wider than the stock 16" tires? 275/40R17 is a great fit & was bone stock on Firehawks. I don't feel like doing the math to figure out the size for a 18" wheel, but obviously wider is easily possible, if you size the wheels right.

Re: New Rims on the way... a fast question
I didn't know that these are considered skinny. The thing is I know very little about tire sizing and all that. To be honest I just looked around on the net forthird gen camaros using the 18 inch chrome Irocs and then looked to see what they were running for tires. Then after I ordered the 255/45/R18 I seen where I member here said that they were an inch too big....so then I contact the place I bought them from and change it to 245/40R18 and now you're telling me they're skinny? What should I have got for the front then? I wish I had had this conversation a week ago.

Re: New Rims on the way... a fast question
Just calling it skinny because that is the stock width for a 16" wheel. I just can't understand going to a larger diameter but leaving the width stock. I fit 275/40s front no mods needed & 315s/35s rear with the right wheel backspacing & some sheetmetal trimming & hammering in the back.
Your tire size choice is fine in that stock was 25.7" & your 18" choice is 25.8". Perfectly fine.
A 275/35R18 is 25.7". As long as the lowering and/or backspacing (offset) is fine? Those would fit too. The wider front tires do tend to track the road a bit more if your alignment isn't that great. With a good alignment though? You wouldn't notice any bad road tracking from the tires.

Re: New Rims on the way... a fast question
So then for the fronts... should I be running say 255/40R18? Please throw me a bone here as I stated I don't fully understand this stuff. These are going to be shipped from Cincinnati to my address in northern ontario.....so you can see why I need to get this right the first time. Many thanks

Re: New Rims on the way... a fast question
Youre not gonna be able to fit 275s on an 8 inch wide wheel. This is the curse of all the stylish thirdgen wheels. All the best lookin wheels are all 8 inches wide it seems.
245/40/18 is the perfect diameter, but you're limited in width. The only reason we can fit 245's on the stock wheels is because there's so much sidewall height for it to flare outwards. 245's on an 18 inch wheel with the much shorter sidewalls is stretched much tighter.
Perusing tire rack, for 245/40/18's, 8 inches is the minimum wheel width recommended for every tire I looked at. For 255/40/18's, 8.5 and 9.0 are the common minimum wheel widths recommended.
Could you shoehorn a 255/40/18 or a 275/35/18 on that wheel? Might be possible, but Im not sure how safe it would be. 245's already have an 8.5 inch wide section width, already wider than an 8 inch wheel, so when increase the wheel size from 16 to 18 inches, you take away a lot of the sidewall's ability to allow for stretch. You can fit 255's on a 16x8, but you cant fit them on a 18x8.
Also, to jump to the next most common width, 275/35/18's (the closest to correct diameter) show 18x9's to be the minimum width.
Your new fronts are perfect, but Im not sure what I thnk about 255/45/18 rears. They're pushign that line where they might be kind of noticable, but they're close enough to the 245/40s that it might be okay too.

Thanks for your help InfernalNortex, I ended up getting 245/40ZR18 on all four corners. As I understand it, these will bolt on with no fitment issues. Many thanks.

Re: New Rims on the way... a fast question
Some of the best tires you can get these days are in 245/40/18. While I think it won't look as good as 275 square setups, I bet a thirdgen with stock or near stock horsepower would respond really well to lightweight 18x8s on a set of Michelin PS4s in 245/40/18.

Re: New Rims on the way... a fast question
It may be a better tire, but there is no real advantage of more rubber on the road compared to a 245-50-16 tire. In reality, a 245-45-17 would probably be better than a 245-40-18 of the same exact tire.
Even the most lightweight wheels in 18" x 8" will weigh several pounds more than the lightest OEM 16" wheel - the TA/GTA crosslace. And 245-40-18 is several pounds heavier than the same tire in 245-50-16.

There may be a marginal increase in unsprung weight with a 17x8 or 18x8 wheel, but on a road course I'm betting the advantage in compound and smaller sidewalls of, say, a Michelin PS4, would outweigh the weight saved by sticking with a 16x8 BFGoodrich tire.
And no knock on BFGs - I have a set in 275/40/17 on my thirgden and they're great. But if Michelin PS4s or Good Year Supercars were available (and reasonably priced), I'd probably have those...
